LOCK FOR BAG-SOR SATCHELS.

provements in locks for traveling-bags or satchels; and the invention consists in the pe` culiar construction, arrangement, and combination of parts.

Figure 1 is a section through one corner of A' a traveling-bag or Satchel to which myimproved lock is applied. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the lock with the co-operating parts of the Satchel.

In the draWings,.A and B are the metallic bows of a Satchel, and C are two like cornerlocks arranged to prevent the Satchel from spreading open at the corners.

The construction of theselocksis 'as follows: To the face of the outer bow is secured the corner metal plate, a, of any desired plainor ornamental form. Within a slot of. this plate is pivotally secured a locking-lever, b, the arm c of which lever rests on the top of the plate, while the other arm projects below and forms vthe hook d. The arm c preferably forms a complementary part of the plate a, so as to deceive the eye of the unitiated about the nature of the device, the whole appearing to be merely a corner-plate when closed. To the inner bow' of the satchel is secured a suitable catch, e, to' engage with the hook d. A spring,f, is suitably arranged to keep the locking-lever-either in its open or closed position. V

In practice the raising of the arms c of the locking-levers disengages ythe hooks d from the aware that such is not new with me.

`While I have described and shownrmy lock 'as a corner-lock for bags or satchels, I want it distinctly understood that I do not intend to limit myself to such' use alone, but as a lock for satchels, bags, purses, 8vo., in the place of '5o the ordinary locks or clasps as well, in which case the plate a assumes the form of the bows .y

In alock for bags, satchels, or purses, thecombination of va plate secured to the outer bow and a locking-leverpivotally secured between its ends in a slot therein, and having an outer arm formed complementary to the said plate and an inner arm kconstructed to engage a catch, substantially as and for the purpose described. l l

In a corner-lock for traveling-bags or Asatchels, a curved corner-plate secured to the faceof the outer bow, a locking-lever pivotally secured between its ends in a slot therein and provided with an outer arm formed complementary to said plate and an inner arm` forming a hook, and a catch'formed on the inner bow, all arranged to operate substantially as described.
