Figure 12 is a transverse sectional view taken on line XII--X[I of Figure 10.
Figure 13 is a developed plan view of the unitary blank from which the combination bill wallet and coin purse of the type illustrated in Figure 10,
is formed.
As shown in the drawings: Referring to Figures 1 to 6 of the drawings, the
improved bill and coin holder or container is 7 formed from a unitary blank or template of the form or shape illustrated in Figure 4 in developed form. r 1 The improved blank or receptacle is adapted to be cut or stamped out of a sheet or strip of leather or other suitable material which is adapted to be subjected to a punch press for the purpose of permitting a plurality of improved combination wallet and coin purse blanks or templates to be stamped therefrom with a minimum of waste.
The unitary or one-piece blank is adapted to be constructed of a selected material such as leather, and comprises a billfold casing blank A and a coin purse blank B integrally connected to one another. The bill fold or wallet casing blank A comprises an intermediate or body section I, an inner end flap section 2 and an outer end flap section 3. The two end sections 2 and 3 are integrally formed on opposite ends of the intermediate or body section I. Integrally formed on one longitudinal side margin of the intermediate section I of the bill wallet or casing blank A and projecting outwardly therefrom at substantially right angles to form a substantially T-shaped blank, is the coin purse blank B consisting of integrally connected coin purse sections 4 and 5. Notches 5 partially separate the blank sections I and 4 as clearly illustrated in Figure 4. An elongated slot 6 is provided transversely in the coin purse blank B in the line of fold 8 between the sections 4 and 5. The slot I forms the opening for thecoin purse, and said slot has fastened therein a closure mechanism for the coin purse consisting of a slide fastener strip 9, provided with the usual mounting tape. Coacting with the slide fastener strip 9 is a latching slide Ill provided with an actuating tab I I. a
The coin purse is formed by folding the coin purse blank B transversely along the line of fold 8 so that the section 5 is superimposed over the section 4. The side margins of the two sections 4 and 5 are then bent inwardly and the coin purse is then stitched around the two sides and across the bottom to form a coin purse having a coin receiving pocket I2 for the reception of coins I3. The finished coin purse is hingedly connected with the bill wallet or casing by the hinge I4 to permit the coin purse to be swung pivotally on one longi-' tudinal margin of the intermediate section I of the billfold or Wallet.
For the purpose of closing the billfold or wallet the wallet end section 2 is provided with a male snap fastener member I5 while the cover flap section 3 of the wallet or billfold casing is provided with a female snap fastener member I6 which is adapted to releasably engage the male snap fastener member I 5 when the coin purse is swung inwardly to lie against the innerface of the wallet section I, and when the end flaps 2 and 3 are bent inwardly over the coin purse and overlap to permit interlocking of the snap fastener members I5 and I6, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
When the combination bill and coin holder is in open position with the coin purse swung out to one side of the wallet, a plurality of bills of difierent denominations may be stacked one upon another and placed longitudinally within the wallet after which the coin purse is hingedly swung inwardly to press upon the middle portion of the stack of bills to assist in holding the same in position. The wallet end 2 is then swung inwardly over one side of the coin purse while the cover flap 3 is then bent inwardly over the opposite side of the coin purse to permit the snap fasteners I5 and I6 to be snapped together to lock the billfold with [the coin purse enclosed therein.
Attention is called to the fact that when the wallet is closed and covers the opposite sides of the coin purse, that the latching means for the coin purse is accessible as clearlyillustrated in Figure 2, so that when it is desired to takecoins from the coin purse, it is not necessary toopen the wallet but simply necessitates the sliding of the slide fastener II] by means of the actuating tab] If; so that the slide fastener mechanism is opened permitting access to the coins within the coin purse pocket I2.
When it is desired to remove the bill Iromthe wallet it is only necessary to hold the walletin the left hand as illustrated in: Figure 3, after which the wallet flap 3 may be opened andswung outwardly, thereby exposing one end of the-stack of bills in the wallet. A person then has onlyjto select the denomination of the bill desired, ;and then pull the same outwardly from the stack,
permitting the rest of the bills to remain in place;
In case it is desired to remove the entire stack of bills, they may be pulled out from one end of the wallet as described, or the wallet'may be completely opened and coin purse may be swung outwardly to one side of the walletgto facilitate removal of one or more of the bills or insertion of a stack of bills in the open wallet. 7 j A modified form of combination wallet and coin purse is illustrated in Figures '7 ,;8 and 9; This form of currency container is constructed from;
a unitar or one-piece blank or template formedof leather or other suitable material. .Theone-t piece blank in developed form is illustratedin Figure 9, and consists of a wallet casing blank C and coin purse blank D integrally connected .to one another along the intermediate portionfof one longitudinal edge of the wallet casing blank C.
The wallet casing blank consists of a "single strip or layer of material comprising an intermediate section I8, an inner end flap or section I9, and an outer flap or end section 20. The coinv purse blank D comprises a front vwall or section 2I, one margin of which is integrally connected with one longitudinal edge of the intermediate section I8 of the wallet casing blank C byiriieaii's' of hinge portion 22. Integral with the coin pursewallet section 2I is a closure flap 23.- integrally formed on one side of the coin purse sectionor' wall 2I is a coin purse back section or wall -"24 and 28, leaving an entrance opening at the top. of the coin purse to be'closedby means of the 1 flap 23 when the flap has been bent over along the dotted line 29. The coin purse flap 23. is provided with a female snap fastener 30 which is adapted to coact with a male snap fastener 3|, which is provided near the free longitudinal edge of the walletintermediate section l8, when the coin purse is hingedly swung inwardly to lie against the wallet intermediate section l8, as illustrated in Figures 7 and 8. Y
With the coin purse positioned adjacent the inner surface of the middle portion of the wallet casing and closed by means of the flap 23 and the snap fasteners 30 and 3|, the wallet casing inner flap I9 is bent inwardly along the dotted line 32,'and the outer flap 20 of the wallet casing is then bent along the'dotted line 33 to overlap the inner flap I9 and be removably latched thereto by means of a snap fastener set consisting of a male snap fastener member 34 secured to the flapsection I9, and a female snap fastener member 35 secured to the flap section 2|].
When the combination wallet and coin purse is in open position, a stack of bills of diiferent denominations may be laid upon the inner surface of the wallet casing, after which the coin purse is hingedly swung inwardly to rest upon the middle portion of the stack of bills II. The coin purse flap 23 is then removably attached to the intermediate section of the wallet casing by means of the snap fastener members 30 and 3|, thereby closing the coin purse to prevent the coins l3 contained therein from falling out of the coin purse. The wallet casing flaps l9 and 20 may then be bent over the coin purse to enclose the same by snapping the snap fastener members 34 and 35 together.
In the modified form of combination wallet and coin purse illustrated in Figures 7 to 9, inclusive, it will be noted that coins may be taken from the coin purse by merely opening the coin purse flap 23 without necessitating opening of the wallet.
To take bills out of the wallet casing, it is not necessary to open the coin purse but merely the cover flap 20 of the wallet similar to the arrangement illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings. With the wallet half open, as shown in Figure 3, the bills may be pulled out selectively.
In the form of combination wallet and coin purse shown in Figures '7 to 9, inclusive, the same may be constructed of two blanks or templates, the major blank consisting of the sections l8, I9, 20, 2| and 23, while the secondary blank may consist only of a coin purse wall section 24 which is separated from the section 2|. To complete the coin purse it will be necessary to place the separate section 24 on the section 2| and stitch the same around the two opposite sides and across the bottom to complete the purse.
Another modified form of combination coin purse and wallet is illustrated in Figures to 13, and is formed from a one-piece unitary blank or template constructed of leather or other selected material. The blank form consists of two integrally connected wallet and coin purse forms E and F respectively. The wallet casing form comprises a single layer or strip of material consisting of an intermediate section 36, an inner end flap section 31 integral with one end thereof, and an outer flap section 38 integral with the opposite end thereof. The inner fla section is provided with a male snap fastener member 39, while the outer flap section 38 is provided with a female snap fastener member 40 for action with the male snap fastener member 39 to hold the wallet latched in closed position.
The coin purse blank Fis integrally formed on one side, of the intermediate. section 36 of the wallet casing blank E by means of a hinge portion 4|, which integrally connects the wallet section casing 36 with a coin purse wallv or section 42. Integral with the coin purse section 42 is another coin purse wallsection 43 provided with an inte-1 gral closure flap section .44. The coin purse closure flap section 44 is provided with a female snap fastener member 45 which is adapted to. coact with a male snap fastener member 46 pro-; vided on the coin purse wall 42. The two coin purse sections 42 and43 are folded along the dotted line 41 to be positioned adjacent one another, and are stitched together across'thev bot-? tom and across onelside of the coin purse adjacent the hinge portion 4|.
In the modified form of combination bill and coin. carrier, it is only'necessary to open the Wallet flap 38, similar'to the arrangement illustrated in Figure 3, to permit access to be had to the bills in the wallet. With the wallet casing partly opened as described, any selected bill can be withdrawn from the wallet with case.
In this modified form of combination wallet and coin purse, access to the coin purse is had by opening the wallet cover fiap 38 and then opening the coin purse flap 44 to permit access to be had to the interior of the coin purse for removal of coins I3 therefrom, or for the insertion of coins into the coin purse.
It will be noted that in the three different forms of the combination wallet and coin purse constructions illustrated and described, that each type is adapted to be constructed from a unitary blank or template which is adapted to be folded to provide a wallet casing having a coin purse hingedly connected thereto, with said coin purse requiring very little stitching to complete the same. The various forms of the device are adapted to carry quite a quantity of bills which are adapted to be positioned in the wallet and are partially held in position by means of the hingedly supported coin purse. The bills are adapted to be selectively removed from the wallet by only half opening the same, as illustrated in Figure 3, and in the forms of the combination bill and coin holders illustrated in Figures 1 and 7 it will be noted that when it is desired to remove coins from the coin purse it is not necessary to open up the wallet, since direct access is had to the coin purse when the wallet is in closed position.
Attention is directed to the thinness of the currency holder when closed and even when containing coins in the coin purse and a stack of bills in the Wallet. It will be noted that the ends of the folded stack of bills, when the one layer wallet is closed, overlie the coin purse and are separated as illustrated in Figures 2, 6 and 11. A space is thus left between the ends of the stack of bills for receiving the overlapping end flaps of the wallet and the fastening means therefor so that the middle portion of the currency holder is not any thicker than the other portions.
A feature of the simplified combination pocketbook, is the ease with which bills may be selectively withdrawn from the stack of bills in the wallet, by holding the pocketbook in the palm of the left hand and only opening the top flap of the wallet, without disturbing the position of the coin purse. The opening of only the wallet top flap exposes one end of the stack of bills, permitting easy separation of the bills for the selection 'of a bill of a desired denomination which may be withdrawn from the open end of the wallet withoutvdisturbing the positionv of the remaining bills.
It will, of course, be understood that various details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention and it is, therefore, not the purpose to limit the patent granted hereon otherwisethan necessitated by the scope of the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A combination wallet and purse made from a single T-shaped sheet having head and leg portions, the leg of said sheet having a closed transverse slot therein intermediate the ends of the leg, said leg having the free end portion thereof folded back along said slot to overlap the leg portion between the slot and the head, means uniting the lapped marginal sides of the leg portions, means uniting the free end of. the leg with the adjacent overlapped leg portion, both, of said means cooperatingwith the leg portions to provide a purseopen only at the slot, a slide fastener in the slot to seal the purse, said purse being swingable over an intermediate portion of the head to position the slide fastener adja-
