This invention relates to article holders, and has' for its primary object and .purpose to provide a simply constructed and service- I able device formed of flexible materials 5 whereby a large number of keys or other rigid articles may be conveniently held or carried for ready access in segregated relation to each other, and in which the holder or case, when folded will present a compara- 10 tively flat non-bulky appearance so that it may be conveniently carried in the pocket or purse.

It is a more particular object of my invention, in certain practical embodiments thereof to provide in combination with the main flexible body wall of the case or holder, a single sheet of flexible material so formed and secured upon one side of said body wall as to cooperate with the opposite end portions of said wall to form article holding pockets.

'With the above and other objects in view, the. invention consists in the improved arti- -r cle holder and in the form, construction and relative arrangement of its several parts as .will be hereinafter more fully described, il-

lustrated in the accompanying drawings, and

'subsequently incorporated in the subjoined claims.

In the drawings, wherein I have disclosed several simple and practical embodiments of the invention, and in which similar reference 'characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,-.

In the construction of my improved article holder or case as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 i n elusive, the device consists of the body wall 5 in the form of a sheet of leather or other 85 suitable flexible material. VThis leather sheet is cut or stamped out into the blank form of i suitable dimensions shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings,- and` includes intermediate and end sections 6 and 7 respectively, adapted to 0 Vso bey folded relative to each other along the horizontal lines indicated at 8 and 9. The intermediate sections 6 of the blank are of somewhat greater width than the end sections thereof to provide the narrow strips or flanges 10 along each of the lateral edges of the sections 6 which are adapted to be folded inwardly alopg the lines 11 to overlie the edges of parts positioned upon the intermediate sections 6 and be permanently secured thereto as will be presently explained.

The other part of the case or holder also consists of a sheet of flexible material 12 shown in its blank form in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the said sheet of material having a width approximate to the width of the sections 6 of the body wall 5 between the fold lines 11. rllhe sheet 12 is however, relatively short, and is provided at its opposite ends with spaced tabs or extensions 13. In line with the corresponding tabs at opposite ends of the sheet 12 and centrally of said sheet, a horizontally elongated opening 14 is formed therethrough.

In assembling the parts of the case as above described, the flexible sheet 12 is arranged upon the inner side of the body wall 5 and with the slots or openings 14 bisected bythe center fold line 8 of the body wall. The end sections 7 of the body wall 5 are then turned inwardly and downwardly so that they overlie and substantially entirely cover the flaps or extensions 13 at the ends of the sheet 12, the marginal strips or flanges 10 of the body wall are then turned inwardly and downwardly upon the lateral edges of the end sections 7 of said Wall and the sheet 12 and are permanently fixed or secured thereto by the lines of stitching indicated at 15. Also, a central longitudinal line of stitching 16 secures the sheet 12 and the end sections 7 to the intermediate sections 6 of the body wall, said latter line of stitching preferably terminating in spaced relation to the folds 9 at the opposite ends ofthe case. In addition, other lines of stitching indicated at 17 extend obliquely in opposite directions from points adjacent the endsof the openings 14 to the longitudinal lilies of

15 and 16 and further secure the sheet of material 12 to the bodywall sections 6. In this manner, it will be readily understood from an inspection of Fig. 1 of the drawings, that there is produced upon one side of the body wall 5 two pairs of longitudinally aligned pockets, the innerV ends ofwhich gradually taper or 4decrease in width towards the openings 14.

In the form of the device as shown in the drawings, itis particularly designed as a holder or retainer for Yale keys.l In inserting the individual keys into the several pockets of the case, the flap or extension 13 is'first withdrawn from beneath the inner edge of the section 7 of the body wall 5, and the shank of the key then inserted downwardly beneath this iap and into the pocket until the key shank projects through one of the openings 14. The pocket is of sufficient width to permit the enlarged head of the key to readily' outer end of the pocket, such movement being continued until the entire key is completely enclosed within the pocket. The case with the keys contained in the pockets thereof is adapted to be folded alongthe line 8 so that the two halves of the case are in face to face contact. The outer side of the body wall 5 of the case is entirely unobstructed and by making this body wall in various ornamental leathers, a highly attractive article of this kind may be produced. Since the individual keys are segregated from each other within the pockets, when the case is folded,the two series of keys will be at all times retained in flat superimposed relation. Thus the case will present a non-bulky appearance and may be conveniently carried in thel vest pocket or the purse.

In Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, I show another embodiment 0f the device wherein the sheet of flexible material 12 secured to the inner side of the body wall is provided with the tab extensions 13 only at one of its ends and is secured to the body wall by spaced parallel lines of stitching 16 to form one series of key-receiving pockets. The end portion of the sheet 12 at one side of the series of openings 14 is4 slightly reduced in width so that its lateral edges are not secured by the in-turned marginal strips 10 of the body wall to provide a closure flap. 18. lateral edge portions of which are secured beneath the inwardly turned marginal strips 4 10, in conjunction with said body Wall, forms a coin purse or card holding pocket extending across the entire width of the case. This wall and the flap 18 are provided withthe complementa] elements of the conventional type of snap fastener indicated at 19 'so that the flap 18 may be securely held in overlapping relation upon the body wall 'sections 7 to thus securely close the open side of the purse pocket. l

In Figs. 7 and 8, I show another construetion in which instead of providing the purse above referredto, one end of thelexible sheet 12a extends substantially to one end edge of the body wall 5 which iny this case is not provided at said end with an inwardly folded section. The free end edge and the lateral edges of this end part of the sheet 12a remain free'or unattachedto the body wall. ' In Figs. 9 and 10 of the drawings, I have shown another construction, in which a key pocket forming sheet of material 12b is secured on the inner side of the body wall at each of its ends to cooperate with one of the inwardly folded end sections 7 of said wall.

Each sheet of material 12F is folded upon itself andthe folded parts thereof stitched along the parallel lines 16b of the body wall to form the series of separate pockets,1said material having the opening 14h cut therethrough at the inner end of each pocket. Thus, there is provided the two series of pockets, the inner opposed ends of which are spaced apart on opposite sides of the center line of the foldable'body wall of the case. In addition, I provide a third series of key receiving pockets consisting of a sheet of flexible material 22 folded on itself as at 23 in spaced relation to one of its ends. A second flexible sheet of material 24 similar to the folded sheets 12b is superimposed upon the folded end portion .of the sheet 22.

The other endy of the latter sheet is then folded inwardly, and the several overlapping parts of these flexible sheets are stitched together to form .the series of pockets. At the fold 23, the flexible sheet 22 is secured to the flexible body wall of the case between the two series of pockets thereon formed by the sheets 12", by means of a horizontal line of stitching' 25. Thus the sheets 22and 23 forming the supplemental series of pockets provide a separate leaf capable of free flexing or hinging movement relative to the intermediate'part of the case. Notwithstanding this increase in the capacity of the case, when the two halves of the case are folded upon opposite sides of the intermediate leaf, the keys are very compactly arranged s o that the case or holder will not be excessively bulky. i

In Figs. 11 and 12, I have illustrated the same construction in so far as the individual key receiving pockets are concerned, but provide the two separate swinging 'leaves attached to the intermediate part of the ,body wall'of the case by the spaced parallel lines of stitching vshown at 26. Thus the capacity of the case is further increased.

From the foregoing description considered in connection with the accompanying .draw-V ings, the construction, several advantages and manner of use of my improved article holderv will be clearly understood. It will be appreciated that inthe form shown in Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawings, a very simple structure is presented, and one which may be manufactured on a quantity production basis at very small cost. Therefore, the article may be employed as an advertising medium by banks` and other financial institutions, and be distributed gratis to renters of safety deposit vaults and other patrons. The other more elaborate constructions are also entirely practical and provide convenient and serviceable casesfor compactly holding and retaining against loss of a large number of keys, while at the same time, the case construction permits of the easy accessibility to any one of a number of keys carried therein and will ocl cupy but a minimum of space in the pocket or purse.

While I have shown and described several desirable forms of my present improvements, it is nevertheless to-be understood that the essential features thereof might also be incorporated in various other alternative structures, and I accordingly reserve the privilege of resorting to all such legitimate changes therein as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

I claim:

1. A case having a body wall of flexible material, the opposite end portions of said body wall being inwardly folded upon one side of said wall, and a separate sheet of material secured to said side of the body wall by spaced parallel lines of stitching and having oppo- Y site end portions thereof cooperating with said inwardly folded end portions of said bod wall to constitute closure means for poc ets formed between said body wall and the inwardly folded end portions thereof.

2. A case having a body wall of-flexible material, opposite end portions of said Wall being inwardly folded upon one side thereof,

a separate sheet of flexible material secured to y said side of the body wall and'extending between the terminal edges of said folded end portions of said wall to form in conjunction therewith longitudinally aligned pockets, and

said sheet of flexible material at its approximate central portion having an opening therein communicating with the aligned.A

pockets and through which an article contained in either pocket may be withdrawn.
