1 Claim.
This invention relates to certain new and use` ful improvements in chance ticket. y
The primaryobject of the invention is to provide a chance ticket of multi-ply construction 5 with the top ply or wall carrying a ap or tab that is preferably die cut into the top wall before the plies are secured together, the tab being of any appropriate design withthe uncut end thereof constituting a hinge while relatively small tongues at opposite sides of the tabl being uncut from the top wall and normally holding the tab in closed position or inthe plane of the top wall y for concealing a chance number or other character therebeneath.
A further object of the invention is to provide a chance ticket of the foregoing character in which bending of the ticket outwardly of the lfree end of the tab causes said free end to be raised out of the plane of the wall carrying the same and in position for ready grasping for the breakage of side tongues connecting the tab to the top Wall, the tongues also being of `such size that the bending of the ticket automatically breaks the connecting tongues to permit opening movement of the tab and exposure of the chance number or other character concealed therebeneath.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of l parts hereinafter more fully described', shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan View of the chance ticket constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing a tab `carried by the top ply or Wallv of the ticket with instructions on theticket for opening the tab;
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of the ticket showing the same partially bent on a line outwardly of the free end of the tab to position said free end outwardly oi the plane of the wall carryng the tab; j f
Figure 3 is a side edge elevational View, similar to Figure 2, showing a further bending movement imparted to the ticketvwith the tab completely moved outwardly of the plane ofthe wall carrying the same; I
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the ticket with the tab in its fully opened position exposing a chance number or the like; l I
Figure 5 is a vertical cross sectionalview, taken on line 5-1-5 of Figure 1; and
Figure 6 isa vertical cross-sectional View taken on line 6-'6 of Figure 2.
The chance ticket may be formed ofany material desired, cardboard or the like being preferable, and the general configuration thereof may be of any desired shape,` the ticket being of multiply construction with at least two plies as illustrated and. indicated by the reference characters Ii) and II respectively which will hereinafter be referred to as the top and bottom walls. The
top andbottom walls are adhesively or otherwise secured together, but before said walls are connected, the top wall I0 is provided with a normally closed p-ull tab.
The pull tab I2 that may be of any desired shape and preferably of substantially oval formation in plan view, the tab I2 being preferably die, cut on the line I3, with the end I4 of the tab I2 adjacent the end I5 of the ticket being uncut to constitute a hinge for the tab, the other end of the tab I2 being fully cut to form a pull end I6 with said pull end I6 spaced a considerable'distance from the other end I'I of the ticket,
In the cutting of the tab I2 from the walli of the ticket, spaced portions at each side thereof remain uncut to form tongues I8 for normally retaining the tab I2 in the plane of the wall I of the ticket.
Instructions for the'use of the ticket and in the opening of the flap I2 are printed on the outer face of the top wall I0 and as shown in Figure i, the words lift here together with an arrow 2B pointing toward the pull end. I6 of the tab I2 are printed on said tab. A transversely extending 'l j dotted line 2| is printed on the top wall II) of the ticket adjacent the pull end IS of the tab and the words 22 reading bend here are printed on the top wall I0 below and adjacent said line 2l. It is to be understood that the line 2i is not weakened, the instructions indicating that the ticket is to be bent in the proximity of the line 2 I. To open the tab I2, the ticket is transversely bent in proximity of the line 2I as 4shown in Fig' ure 2, to displace the pull end I6 of the tab I2 outwardly of the plane of the top wall lli of the ticket and in position to be gripped by the `user for breakingjthe tongue connection I 8 between the tab I2 and the top Wall IIJ as shown in Figure 3 ofV the drawing. The tab I2 then being fully opened to the position shown at Iza, in Figure 4 for exposing a portion 23 of the adjacent face of Ythe bottom wall I I that carries a chance number 24 or other'identication characterv thereon as shown in Figurev 4. It is also to be understood that the tongues I8 may be weakened to such an extent that the bending of the ticket from` the position 'shownin Figure 2 to that position shown in Figure 3 will automatically break the tongue connection between the tab l2 and top wall I0 for the freeing of the tab from the top wall for movement on its hinge connection I4.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment p of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
We claim:
In a chance ticket, a two-ply construction comprising top and bottom walls, a tab formed in the top Wall and having a hinged end and a pull end, tongues spaced from the pull end connecting the sides of the tab to the top Wall for normally retaining the tab in -the plane of the 'top Wall whereby the pulll end of the tab is moved out Wardly of the plane of the top Wall when said vticket is bent on a line transversely thereof adjacent and outwardly of said pull end to position the latter for gripping and breakage of the tongues for opening the tab on its hinged end to expose the adjacent upper portion of thev bottom Wall, said tab being of substantially oval formation With the hinge end in proximity of one end of the ticket and the pull end terminating in proximity of the transverse median line of the ticket to provide a nger gripping portion on the ticket opposite the hinged end of the tab.
