Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to lottery tickets This invention relates to a lottery ticket. When producing a lottery ticket of a design which is not folded in its final state, i.e. the state preceding its opening by the purchaser thereof, special care must be taken to prevent an opening of the ticket by an unauthorized manipulation at the adhesively adhered areas thereof in order to enable a reading of the lottery identification means (for instance, the winning number) located inside the ticket. In order to effect the adhesive bond as mentioned above use is made commonly of a cold glue or a hot glue and further bonding alternatives consist, for instance, of a heat sealing.Such bonding by the use of an adhesive or by heat sealing can be produced with such an intensity that it is practically impossible to surmount the bonded area by means of mechanical manipulations (for instance, razor blade) or by use of nonmechanical manipulations (for instance, a solvent) without producing subsequently detectable traces of such manipulation. In order to increase the security against an unauthorized manipulation of the closed lottery ticket the glued or sealed, respectively, area of mentioned bonding can be chosen to be extremely large. Governmental regulations regarding tamper-proof lottery tickets demand, however, often a further safety measure.
In order to meet such additional demand the lottery ticket according to the invention comprises a bottom and a cover sheet adhesively bonded to each other at a margin area, comprises further a lottery ticket identification means located between the bottom sheet and the cover sheet, the bottom sheet and the cover sheet comprising joint perforations extending in an inner area thereof located inwards of the margin area, at which inner area the bottom sheet and the cover sheet are not adhered to each other, which perforations feature various distances from a respective adjacent edge of the lottery ticket.
By means of mentioned various distances of the perforations located adjacent a respective lottery ticket edge it is much more difficult to open the adhesively bonded or heat sealed, respectively, edge area by mechanical means and, furthermore, it is even more difficult to cut through the material located between the perforations without leaving easily visible traces of such tampering.
In the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 is a plan view of a lottery ticket in its closed position; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lottery ticket in its open position; Fig. 3 is a plan view of a second embodiment of the lottery ticket in its closed condition; and Fig. 4 is a top view of a third embodiment of the lottery ticket in its closed position.
The lottery ticket illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a bottom sheet 1 and a cover sheet 2.
These two sheets 1 and 2 are bonded to each other along a margin area 3 of perimeter area, respectively, for instance, by a cold glue, a hot glue or by heat sealing. The width of the margin area 3 is identified by the dash-dotted line 4. After the two sheets 1 and 2 have been bonded together at their margin areas, for instance, by an adhesive, the two sheets 1 and 2 are jointly perforated. The embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is provided with an ornamental perforation 5.
This perforation consists of curvilinear cuts, of which the concave arches 6 face each other relative to an adjoining lottery ticket edge 7, such as illustrated in Fig. 1. The lottery ticket comprises three further edges 8, 9 and 10.
The perforations 5 are located adjacent of only three edges 7, 8 and 10 of the lottery ticket such as clearly can be seen in Fig. 1. Fig. 1 illustrates further that the curvilinear cuts 5 overlap each other when viewed in longitudinal direction of a respective adjoining lottery ticket edge, for instance, 7, 8 and 10.
Fig. 1 illustrates still further that the perforations 5 have various distances from an adjoining edge 7 or 8 or 10 of the lottery ticket.
The bottom sheet 1 is made of a compound material comprising a cardboard sheet and an aluminium foil. Accordingly, the bottom sheet 1 can consist, for instance, of cardboard laminated by an aluminium foil. The same proves true for the cover sheet 2. In the closed condition of the lottery ticket as illustrated in Fig. 1 mentioned aluminium foils of the bottom sheet 1 and of the cover sheet 2 are located at the respective outer surfaces of the ticket. Such a lottery ticket cannot be scanned by illumination, cannot be penetrated by rays by using known apparatuses.
The identification means "XYZ" is visible in the opened ticket such as illustrated in Fig. 2. This lottery identification means can be, for instance, a number or a row of numbers; it may be a letter or a series of letters or may encompass also other symbols and markings. This lottery ticket identification means may also be in the form of a printing on the inner side of the bottom sheet 1.
The lottery ticket identification means can, however, be a separate sheet having, for instance, a surface area corresponding in dimension to the surface areas of bottom sheet and the cover sheet 2. Such a separate sheet which in such case would be printed with "XYZ" may be adhesively bonded to the bottom sheet 1 at its complete bottom surface. In such case the four edges of such separate sheet can extend up to the edges 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the ticket. In such case the separate sheet, the bottom sheet 1 and the cover sheet 2 are adhesively bonded or heat sealed at their margin areas 3 and the perforations 5 will extend through the bottom sheet, the cover sheet and the separate sheet.
The margin area 3 extends between the edges 7, 8, 9, 10 and the dash-dotted line 4 as mentioned above. Accordingly, at least the bottom sheet 1 and the cover sheet 2 are adhesively bonded or heat sealed to each other in this margin area 3. In case a separate sheet is provided, such may also extend over the complete surface area between the sheets 1 and 2 and in such case is also adhesively bonded or heat sealed to the two sheets. Inside of the dashdotted line 4 an inner area of the ticket is defined which accordingly is rectangular, too, and which has its outermost limit located at the dash-dotted line 4. In this inner area 11 the sheets 1 and 2 are not bonded to each other, they are not adhesively bonded or heat sealed to each other. If mentioned separate sheet carrying the printed letters "XYZ" is located between the two sheets 1 and 2, such separate sheet is also not adhesively bonded or heat sealed to the cover sheet 2.
The purchaser of a closed lottery ticket illustrated in Fig. 1 grips the ticket with both hands and breaks the inner area 11 at the perforations of the frame like margin area 3; that is to say he pushes the inner area 11 through the frame 3.
Accordingly, the inner area 11 is severed from the margin area 3 at three side edges due to the tearing of the material located between the individual cuts of the perforations 5 such that the inner area 11 can be folded up such as illustrated in Fig. 2 thus allowing a recognizing of the lottery ticket identification "XYZ".
In order to prevent a transillumination of the lottery ticket as referred to earlier when, for instance, mentioned aluminium foil is not applied, the inner surface of the cover sheet 2 may be printed at its inner area 11 by a maze of jumbled riumbers of letters in accordance with known methods, which maze will be located on top of the ticket identification means "XYZ". In such case this ticket identification means cannot be read by transillumination. Mentioned maze may obviously be also located at the inrier surface of the bottom sheet 1 in case a loose separate sheet is used, which sheet accordingly is not adhesively adhered or heat sealed to the bottom sheet 1.
Such a loose separate sheet can in such case be merely placed in the inner area 11 of the lottery ticket.
Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate two further embodiments of the perforations. The embodiment illustrated in Fig. 3 depicts a rectilinear line configuration 12 having various distances from the respective ticket edge 7 and 10, respectively. The embodiment as illustrated in Fig. 4 is also provided with linear perforations, which perforations 13 again feature differing distances from an adjoining ticket edge 7 or 10, respectively. Obviously it is also possible to use a perforation consisting of lines of individual holes.
In the embodiments illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 the dash-dotted line 4 is again depicted, which line 4 limits the inward extent of the adhesively bonded or heat sealed margin area.
As further additional safety feature against a tampering the adhesively bonded or heat sealed margin area 3 can be provided with a knurled section 14 such as illustrated at one area of Fig.
