Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY ISKE, OF LAN GASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN INVALID-BEDSTEADS.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 200,865, dated March 5, 1878 application filed September 17, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY IsKE, of the city and county of Lancaster, in the State of Bennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Appliances for Invalid-Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to a class of invalid-bedsteads in which the object is to combine, in a bedstead, appliances for the convenience of the patients as well as that of the attendants; and they relate to the several arrangements shown and hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying drawing and letters marked thereon, with a brief description of the same, will enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bedstead with appliances in place. The foot-board is shown detached.
, Separate enlarged figures with the same letters illustrate certain parts separately.
The proper frame, composed of the side rails A and foot and head rails A, has also an inner cross rail, N, at the head and foot of the frame, between which and the frame there is a space for a hoisting-roller, W, which may be boxed up; but contact with the bed-clothing is prevented when open, as shown. These end rollers W have projecting ends having their bearing in the side rails A, or, more properly, in the corner-plates 0. These projecting ends of said rollers are also adapted for a socket-handle, h, and provided with a pawl, r, and ratchet S, in which there is no novelty.
On the outer face of each end of the side rails A there is a corner-plate, O, which is provided with a long open slot, q, above, and a shifting or oblong slot, 2, below, the center, and terminated below with an open notch, u.
It is often desirable to remove the head or foot board L M. By means of plate P, having projecting lugs 10 on the lower and outer end of the said boards L M, they can be set in upon the frame, the lugs 19 fitting in the slots q in the plate 0, holding them in place.
In order to fold the legs R inward against the under side of the side rails A, two headed pins, 22, are used on their outer upper ends, the upper forming a sliding pivot in the slot t of the plate 0, which allows of extension, so as to detach the lower pin '0 out of the notch w in the lower end of the plate 0, when the leg or support R, held by the headed pivot as a hinge, may be folded, as shown.
WhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the frame A A of the bedstead, of the plate 0, provided with the notches q and u and slot 2?, the head or foot frame L or M, provided with plate P, and leg portion provided with the headed pins, as and for the purpose set forth.
JNO. M. AMWEG, JACOB STAUFFER.
