JOHN G. KNAPP AND JAMES W. KNAPP, OF WARWICK, NEW YORK, ASSIGNORS OF ONE-THIRD THEIR RIGHT TO JAMES H. HOLLY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CABlNET-BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 200,401, dated February 19, 1878; application filed January 3, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J NO. G. KNAPP and J AS. W. KNAPP, of Warwick, in the county of Oran ge and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wardrobe- Bedsteads; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to certain improvements in cabinet-bedsteads and the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully set forth. v
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and arran gement, reference bein g had to theaccompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a view showing the bed-bottom lowered. Fig. 2 is a view with the side of cabinet closed and the top lifted. Fig. 3 is a view showing the bedstead or crib folded. Fig. 4 is a sectional view, showing the means for locking the legs and Figs. 5 and 6 are views showing devices that may be used for securing the rails when the bed is extended.
A represents the cabinet or case, provided with a hinged top piece, B, and a hinged front, 0, having an extension, D, which together form the bed-bottom. The rails E are held to the bed-bottom by irons F,-secured to the bedbottom 0 in any suitable manner.
The extension-rails G are hinged to the end 4 I rails, and the extension-rails H are hinged to the front rails as shown. Two or more le s J, are hinged to the bed-bottom, for supportin g the same. These legs, when turned down, are locked by pins, as shown, to hold them in position.
When the bed is to be folded, the side rails G and H are turned back, the extension D turned up, and the legs J adjusted, as shown in Fig. 3 of drawings. Then the top piece B is raised to allow the bed to pass into the cabinet, when it is let down, and held by a fasteningdevice, L, on the front O of the cabinet. Any suitable device may be used for locking the rails Gr and H, to prevent them from swinging around after the bed is lowered.
In Figs. 5 and 6 I have shown two L-shaped pins, M, placed in recesses in the end of the rails, having one end extending out through a slot in the side of the rail, as shown.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cabinetbedstead A, having hinged top piece B and bed bottom or front 0, provided with end extension D, with hinged extensionrails G H, rails E, and legs J, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN G. KNAPP. JAMES W. KNAPP.
