Description

MELVILLE B. COBURN, OF RUFFSJDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WARDROBES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164.6 10, dated June 22, 1875; application filed October 3, 1874.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, M ELVILLE B. GOBURN, of Butts Dale, in the county of VVestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wardrobes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved device with a portion of the curtain removed. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same; and Fig. 4 is a top view of the curtain-bars, showing the means of adjusting them.
The object of this invention is to obtain a portable wardrobe, which is applicable to the corner of a room or to a fiat wall; and which consists of hinged folding arms, provided with pivoted detachable curtain-bows, constructed with hooked or looped ends, that will allow the curtains, when drawn together, to be lapped, said arms being provided with hooks and racks, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A A designate two arms, which are connected together by means of a hinge, a, so that they can be folded up or adjusted for the corner of a room or for a flat surface. Hooks or pins h are used for affording means to hang up clothin G G design-ate two curtain-bows, which are pivoted to the free ends of the arms A A, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and constructed with long hooks or loops 9 g on their ends, which are connected together by a pin, 19, as shown in Fig. 4. The hooks g g lap over each other in such manner that the edges of the curtain E can be lapped when brought together. The curtains are fastened to the upper edges of the two arms A A, and hang over the two bows G G, to which these curtains are attached by means of ring-slides 1'.
It will be seen from the above description that the arms A A can be folded compactly by removing the pivot-pinp, which connects together the bows G G; or these bows can be detached from their arms, in which case it will not be necessary to remove the pin 19.
W'hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A wardrobe consisting of hinged arms A A, pivoted bows G G, and curtains E, combined substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
