Description

D. CUMMINI?` Clothes-Frames. No.156,0 75l Patented Oct. 20,1874.`
/Wg N UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID GUMMIN G, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,075, dated October 20, 1874; application liled July 25, 1874.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, DAVID CUMMING, oi Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Clothes-Frames, of which the following is a specification:
This clothes fra-rneor horse is madein three or more sections, so as to fold, and the sections are made narrower at the top than at the bottom, so that, when the frame is spread for use, the sections stand at an inclination inwardly; and hence the horizontal rails are not in the sanle vertical plane, as usual, but they allow the clothes that are hung over such rails to remain separate, instead of those on the upper rails hanging against those upon the rails below.
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective View ot' the frame or horse as open, and Fig. 2 is a plan of the same as folded together.
The central section is made with the rails c, inserted into the posts a at an acute angle, so that the posts converge, and the section is narrowest at the top. The rails c of the side sections are inserted into the posts a at the same angle as in the central section; but the posts a may be at right angles to the rails, as shown.
When folded, the frame will rest upon the lower ends of all the posts, and the sections will be contiguous, as shown in Fig. 2.
When opened out, the frame assumes a shape somewhat like the frustum of a pyramid, and the clothes hung over the rails are not brought into contact with those on the rails below, but hang vertically and separate from each other.
The sections are hinged together by straps, or in any other usual manner.
I claim as lny invention- The clothes-frame made of rails and posts, united in sections that are narrower at the top than at the bottom, and hinged together, as specified, so that the sections incline toward each other when the frame is opened, as and for the purposes set forth.
DAVID CUMMING.
