To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES K. GURLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of lSalt Lake, State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Jumpers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to baby jumpers.

The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of collapsible baby jumper.

A second object of the invention is to provide a baby jumper which may be simply constructed from ordinary materials such as standard pipe and fittings.

A third object of the invention is to provide an improved arrangement for holding a child in a device of this description.

l/Vith the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of a tripod of improved construction having a novel form of jumper attached thereto.

The invention further consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a side elevation of the jumper extended. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the jumper folded. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the head of the tripod, the members being shown open in full lines and closed in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a side view of the supporting garment open. Fig. 5 is a section on t-he line 5-5 of Fig. 4 showing the position of the garment when in use. Fig. 6 is a view of the supporting garment from the outside.

The frame of this invention is composed of gas pipe and it is preferred to use a light pipe such as inch. This frame comprises a center leg 10l and side legs 11. The center leg 10 is provided at its upper end with a cross 12 which is screwed on to the center leg. The side legs 11 are flattened at their upper 'ends as indicated at 13 and these flattened portions are provided with suitable perforations to receive a bolt 14 which is provided with a threaded end whereon 1s Specification of Letters Patent.

screwed a butterfly nut 15. This bolt passes through the lateral arms of the cross and securely holds the side legs thereto, suitable washers 16 being provided between the head of the bolt and the leg on that side and the butterfly nut and the leg on its side. Screwed into the upper end of the cross is a plug 17 wherethrough passes a suspend ing ring 18 adapted to be used when the device is collapsed, for the purpose of hanging it up out of the way. Each of the frame legs 1() and 11 are provided at their lower extremities with pipe caps 19 forming feet for the tripod.

Secured to the pipe cross 12 is a suspending loop 2O whereto is attached a snap hook 21. This snap hook is of the swivel type so that the jumper may freely rotate without twisting the parts.

At 22 is indicated a coil spring which has its upper end secured in the snap hook and to the lower end of this coil spring is secured an adjusting strap 23. This strap passes through aY ring 24 whercto is secured a swivel snap hook 25.

At 26 is a hoop which serves to spread supporting bands 27 which are united at their centers and are provided with a ring 28 which engages in the lower snap hook 25. These supporting bands extend downward and at their lower ends are attached to a waist bodice 29 provided with a reinforcing waist band 30. This bodice is open on one side and is provided with suitable fastening means as indicated by the buttons 31 and button holes 32. Extending downward from the waist bodice is a skirt 33 which may, if desired, be made integral with the waist. Running from the back of the reinforcing band 30 is a webbing seat band 84, the forward end of which is provided with buttons 35 adapted to be received in button holes 36 formed in t-he reinforcing band.

For the purpose of preventing the tripod from spreading to too great a degree each of the legs thereof is provided with a clamp 37 having perforated ends which receive chains 38 thus preventing the legs from spreading.

In using this device the legs are spread apart and the butterfly nut tightened to hold them in proper position. The adjust* ing strap 23 is then arranged at such height that when a child is placed on the webbing seat and the bodice buttoncd around it, its feet will rest lightly on the floor. The natural kicking of the infant will then cause the spring 22 to retract and expand alternately, thus dancing the child up and down and keeping it amused and quiet. lVhen it is desired to fold the device for storage purposes it is merely necessary to bring the center leg into the plane of the side legs and unscrevv the butterfly nut so that the side legs are permitted to lie adjacent the center leg. The device may then be hooked up in a convenient place by means of the suspending loop 1S thus occupyingl but small space and being convenient to move about.

By reason of the light construction the jumper is readily set up or taken down, and if'desirable in packing, the supporting harness may be unsnapped from the ring at the bottom of the spring and packed separately, or this may be done in order to launder the same.

There has thus been provided a simple and eiiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.

Having thus described the inventiomwhat is claimed as new, is

ln a device of the kind described, a pipe cross having` intersecting bores one of Which is threaded at both ends, a sleeve held in the unthreaded bore and extending across the threaded bore, a tripod leg screwed into one end of the threaded bore and bearing against the sleeve, a bolt passing through said sleeve, and other tripod legs carried at the ends of said bolt.
