To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARENCE R. PATTEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tacoma, in the county of Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Baby-Jumper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to baby jumpers, and has reference more particularly to a device of this class which comprises a frame provided with a pocket constituting a support for the occupant and means associated with the frame for flexibly and adjustably supporting the device.

An object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive and durable baby jumper in which the child is so supported as to permit proper exercise of its limbs without danger of it falling out and without requiring the constant attention of an attendant.

A further object of the invention is to provide a sanitary pocket easily removable for cleaning, and of a material which can be laundried.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of my invention showing the device in use; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the means for suspension removed; Fig. 3 is a section through part of the frame on a plane normal to the axis of the ring; and Fig. 4: is a transverse section of the ring.

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be un derstood that the frame is preferably in the form of a ring rod, may be either solid or tubular, continuous or with a gap. The pocket may be made of any material suitable for the purpose and of sanitary value, and is fixed removably on the ring by any well known means. It is needless to say that the flexible and adjustable means for suspension may vary according to needs and design.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I provide a coil spring 1, suspended by one end from a hook fixed in the ceiling or other support, the other end of said spring being connected to the end of a strap 2. By means of the strap 2,'the length of the suspension can be readily adjusted. The other I end of the strap 2 is provided with a ring 3, that suspends rings 8 ,-and four strips 5, more or less, of webbing as suspended from said rings 3*, the lower ends of which are connected to wire loops 6 slidably mounted on the frame ring 7. Any equivalent connection may be employed between the strap 2 and strips 5; it will be understood also that the details of the ring 7 and its appurtenances may be varied within the spirit of my invention. The frame ring, in the form shown, has a gap 8 closed by a locking bolt 9 held in place by a screw 10. On the ring 7 is fitted a pocket 11, by means of an edge sleeve 12 formed by the material of the pocket. The pocket 11 is provided with two apertures 13, 13, for the childs feet, a plurality of holes 14 for the loops 6 to project through, and a radially disposed laced slit 15 to facilitate the removing of the pocket 11 from the frame ring 7. To remove the pocket 11 from the ring 7 for laundrying, the slit 15 is unlaced and spread, thus allowing the removal of the screw 10; and by shifting the bolt 9 to the right (see Fig. 8) the gap of the ring 7 is opened. The pocket 11 is then removed by simply pulling on the left side of the slit in the pocket 11 into the gap 8, the right side of the slit following the left on the ring 7. In consequence of this, the wire loops 6 are also removed from the ring 7 with the pocket, and to separate them from the pocket, the loops 6 are pulled through the holes 14, thus leaving the pocket free for cleaning. To replace the pocket, the process is reversed, as can be easily seen.

When the device is in use, the baby sits in a perfectly comfortable and natural position not being hampered with any bandages around the body. The baby can be easily and quickly placed in or removed from the jumper, and yet it is impossible for him to jump out or fall. The pocket holding the child is large, allowing ample room for playthings, and the ring 7 is just in the right place for the child to grasp easily when in the act of jumping, thereby strengthening not only the lower limbs but the whole body as well, in that it is brought into active exercise.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a baby jumper, a seat-supporting ring having a gap normally closed, and a pocket forming a seat having a sleeve on the edge thereof engaging said ring.

2. In a baby jumper, a seat-supporting ring having a gap normally closed, and a removable pocket forming a seat having a radial slit, means for keeping the edges of said slit together, and a sleeve on the edge of said pocket engaging said ring with the slit registering with said gap.

3. In a baby jumper, an upper ring, a lower ring having a gap normally closed, a plurality of removable loops on said lower ring, a plurality of flexible members conmeeting said upper ring with said loops on said lower ring, and a removable pocket on said lower ring having apertures for the childs legs and for said loops on said ring.

4:. In a baby jumper, an upper and a bers connecting said upper ring with said loops on said lower ring, a removable pocket having a radial slit, means for keeping the edges of said slit together, a sleeve at the edge of said pocket engaging said lower ring with the slit registering with said gap on said ring, said pocket having apertures for the ehildslegs and said sleeve having holes through which said removable loops on said lower ring are projected, said pocket and said loops being removable from said ring through the gap on same.
