UNITED STATES. PATENT OFFICE.
OLAF KYLLo, or PORTLAND, OREGON.
CLOTHES-DRIER.
Application filed May 26, 1914. Serial No. 841,029. 7
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLAF KYLLo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Driers, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to a class of clothesdriers that may be suspended from ceilings or other overhead "structures, and raised above the heads of persons standing or walking thereunder.
The object of my invention, broadly speaking, is to provide a device of this kind that is simple in construction, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture, but more specifically to a device that may be easily and quickly attached to or disengaged from any superstructure, and lowered when desired to hang clothes to the rods and raised to a predetermined height when the clothes are attached thereto.
With the above and other useful objects in view, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combinations ofelements and arran ements of parts to be hereinafter fully set orth and specifically claimed.
In order to fully comprehend my invention and the art to which is relates, reference must be had to the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this application, of which Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention with the slide raised Fig. 2 is a similar view of the slide and r0 s; Fig. 3 is a detail of the lock; Fig. at is a vertical section through the rod holder; Fig. 5 is a cross section on line A-A, Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a section and elevation of a modified form of my inven, tion, and Fig. 7 a top plan view of same.
In the practice of my invention, I employ a support2, detachably fastened to body 3 by means of screws 1, while the support may be attached to the ceiling or other superstructure by means of screws or bolts passing through apertures 5 in said support as shown in Fig. 1. The form of body illustrated in Fig. 1 consists of two pieces of wood or other material fastened at the top by means of a plate 6, and at the bottom by a rectangular collar 7; two sides of said body being open as shown in the illustrations, while the other two sides are closed. Passing longitudinally of the inside of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1914.
body, are rectangular grooves 8-8 to receive guides 9, 9*, which are fastened to sl1de10 and serveto prevent lateral movement of said slide.
A sheave 11 is attached to support 2 and i a rope or. cord 12, passes over said sheave and fastens to. the upper end of slide 10;
of a'helical spring 16, while the other'end of said spring presses against the shoulder 17 of the cylinder. An S-shaped link 18 is attached to the outwardly extending end of the locking-pin, through which passes cord 12; said cord having a knot tied therein above the link ;-this allows a small amount locking-pin automatically engages notch 19*,
and when raised and the cord released, said locking-pin automatically engages notch 19 to hold the guide to a predetermined height.
The structure shown in Figs. 6 and 7 illustrates a form of drier that is composed of metal; the body being constructed of piping, while the hub, or rod holder, is cast iron or some other cast material with a plurality of lugs 21 integral therewith; said lugs serving as means to hold rods 22 in radial positions with the hub, while pins 23 serve as pivotal means on which said rods oscillate to the position shown by the broken lines 23. This position of the rods is brought into use when the device is packed for shipping purposes, or it may be used to fold the rodswhen the device is not in actual use for drying purposes.
The structure of the rod holder shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is substantially the same as in Figs. 6 and 7; the principal difference being the fact that the rods are detachable and do not fold up close to the body.
My invention may be constructed of any material and made any size deemed suitable for all the requirements of such a device, and While I have illustrated and described a preferred form of construction and combinations of elements considered the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my inventioni so that others skilled in. the art to Which it:
ring as my oWn, I hereunto aflix my signature. in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
relates may be enabled to construct and use; the same, What I claim and desire to secures by Letters; Patent, is.:
In a device of the character described, a2 body portion, means to fasten said body? portion to: a ceiling, a slide to operate in;
said body portion, means onthe slide to prelink attached to said locking-pin through Which said cord passes for the. purpose of "disengaging the locking-pin from the slide, a hub attached to the slide, and rods attached to the hubs to receive the articles to be dried, substantiallyv as set forth.
In testimony whereof I claim theforego- QLAF KYLLO.
