AUGUST ZELLER', or new roan, AND WILLIAM J. ma a. WINFIELD, new 03K.
' CLOTHES-LINE 'snrron'r.
I have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Supports, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to clothes line supports to be used in connection with clothes lines of the endless type. V
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a clothes line support adapted to be secured to the outer sill of a window frame, so that a person using the line will not have to lean out of the window to place the clothes thereon.
Another object of the invention is the provision of the clothes line support of the class described, which can be swung out of the window so that it does not interfere with the closing of the same.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a means which allows the swinging member of the support to be swung on its pivot, but which at the same time retains the clothes line taut.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a means for locking the swinging member in any one of its several positions.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a swiveled pulley at the free extremity of the swinging member which accommodates itself to the various movements of the clothes line.
With these and other objects in view it is thought that the nature, purpose and operation of the device will be clearly understood when the following description and claims are taken in connection with the accompanying drawing of which I Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clothes line support showing the same applied to a window frame swung to a position inside of the window.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same swung to its inactive position.
Referring to the drawings A represents a window frame and B, a vertically disposed supporting frame, which is secured to the outer sill of the frame A. The supporting frame B, is provided with the outwardly extending lugs 10 and 11. The lug'lO, is disposed toward the upper I Specification of Letters Patent.

portion of the supporting frame B, and has mounted thereon a circular horizontally arranged rack 12. A verticallyarranged pivot,
13, extends upwardly from the axial centerof the rack and a similar pivot is provided on the lower lug 11, in the same vertical alinement as the upperjpivot. 14, designates an arm which is provided with an opening to receive the pivot 13, for horizontal swinging movement. An angularly disposed brace bar 15, is secured to the underside of the arm 14, approximately at the center of its length and extends downwardly and inwardly toward the lower'lug 11, thelower extremity thereof being provided with an opening to receive the upstanding pivot' with which the lug is provided. Secured to V the underside of the arm 14, for sliding movement through the keepers 16, is a detent or bolt 17, which is adapted to co-act with the series of teeth provided on the periphery on the rack 12. A Weighted lever 18, is mounted on the arm 14, and extends downwardly therefrom; said lever is connected to the detent 17, through the medium of a link 19, which moves through a slot in the bar 15.: Extending downwardly from the arm 14, and disposed toward the outer free end thereof in-close proximity to the lever 18, is a handle 20. A pulley 21, is
carried by the upper portion of the supporting frame B, and is adapted to receive one strand of the clothes line designated by the character 0. The outer free extremity of the arm 14, has secured thereto a substantially rectangular frame 22, in which is A hook 24c, is provided upon the lug 10, of the supporting frame B, the purpose of which is to receive the remaining strand of the clothes line.
. In operation of the device,.assuming that the support is in the position shown in Fig.
2, when it'is desired to hang clothes on the line the lever 18 isOperated to disengage the detent from the rack the arm 14, is then swung to the position shown in Fig. 1 and upon releasing the lever 18, the weight of the same willv cause the detent to engage in one of the teeth of the rack the strand of the line engaged with the hook 24:, is then released and the device is in a position for receiving the clothes to be hung thereon.
While we have shown and described a siniple and preferred form of our invention, we want it understood that we-do not wish to limit ourselves to the exact detail of construction contained therein, hut reserve the right to modify or substitute elements for those shown which fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What We claim is A clothes line support, comprising, a supporting frame, adapted to be secured to the sill of a Window, an arm pivoted to the supporting frame for horizontal, radial swinging movement, a rack provided on said supporting frame, a detent slidably mounted on said arm and adapted to co-act with said rack for securing the arm in one of its several radial positions, a eighted lever pivoted to the underside of said arm and connected With the detent to cause the same to normally co-act With ,the rack, a pulley sWiveled at the outer free extremity of the arm, a pulley mounted on the supporting frame to receive one strand of the clothes line, and a hook mounted on the supporting frame and adapted to receive the remaining strand of the clothes line When the arm. is.
swung to an inactive position. v
In test mony whereof We aflix our slgnatures. V
