CLOTHES-DRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
Application filed April 18, 1910. Serial No. 556,227.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE Sonocem, a citizen of Canada, and a resident of San Diego, in the county of San Diego, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ClothesDriers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to clothes driers adapted for attachment to the sides and more particularly near the top of windows, doors, porches or any convenient places.
The objects of the invention are to provide a simple, durable, comparatively inexpensive device of the character described which may be lowered to a position convenient to hang the clothes on and then raised to a position out of the way.
lith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of cert-ain novel features of construction, combination and the arrangements of parts hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of my improved clothes drier complete, shown attached to the top of a Window, Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof and showing a lowered position of the reel of the drier in dotted lines and Fig. 3 shows a detailed side view of the connection for the two sections of the reel arms.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings l and 2 represent horizontal supports, which are attached to the building over a window, door or other convenient place, by means ofI a tie piece 3 which in turn is bolted to the building. These supports 1 and 2 are provided with braces 4, connected near the outward eX- tending end of said supports and extending upward connecting with the building some distance above said supports. Between these supports l and 2 is pivoted on the eX- tended end of said supports by means of bolts l and 2, a swinging frame 1l which is centrally pivoted on said supports l and 2 and provided with a cross piece on its inner end 1la and in its outer end with a cross piece 5 and centrally pivoted on said cross piece 5 is a reel 6 which is composed of a plurality of arms. On said reel is provided clothes lines 6b. This reel is made in two sections, the outside section being marked 7, said outside section is made so that it may be readily removed from the inner section leaving the reel smaller when desired and is connected to the inner portion 6 by means of a hook piece 6C attached to arm 6L and eye piece 7a which is attached to the outside arm 7b, the eye piece 7 being hooked over hook 6 and the two surfaces of the arm coming in contact, holds them in the position shown in Figs. l and 3. This reel is adapted to revolve in piece 5 and is held in a horizontal plane by means of arms 8 and 9, arm 9 being rigidly attached to the cross piece 5 and is pivotally connected to arm 8, which in turn is pivoted to the lower side of the cross piece 10, which is attached to the lower side of supports l and 2. In the inner end of swinging frame 1l is a cross piece lla to which is attached a cable and extending through piece 3 centrally, then to the side of the window and downward and on the side of the window is provided a hook l2 for attaching said cable at any desired position.
It will be readily seen, that with this construction this reel may be lowered to position as shown best in dotted lines in Fig. 2 and where the clothes may be conveniently placed on said reel, then by the use of the cable the reel containing the clothes may be raised to the posit-ion shown by solid lines in Fig. 2 and fastened there by means of the hook l2 and that the reel may be easily re duced in size when desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
l. A clothes drier, comprising main supports, a swinging frame pivotally mounted thereon, a clothes reel vertically and horizontally pivoted on said frame, double arms attached to the main supports and to the reel pivot piece, all substantially as set forth.
2. A clothes drier, comprising a supporting frame, another frame centrally pivoted thereon, a cross piece pivoted in the outer extending ends of said last mentioned frame, a clothes reel pivoted vertically In witness whereof, I affix my signature thereon, double arnli means for hollding said in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. reel Vin a horizonte 'position at a1 times, a
cable attached to the inward extending end GEORGE SGROGGIE of the pivoted frame extending downward I Witnesses:
and adapted to be attached to a hook, al1 CLAUD T. DAVENPORT,
substantially as set forth. l MARY A. BOWMAN.
