foot posts when upright are drawn firmly against and locked to the cot body to form a tight and close union therewith, but also one wherein said head and foot posts are capable of being readily released from the cot body,

and folded under so as to be disposed wholly beneath the side rails of the cot body.

The attainment of the above object com,-

prehends the employment of straps each having a pivotal connection at one end, and a vertical inclined slot at the'opposite end to receive a laterally-proj ectin g bolt, as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1,is

The frame of the cot is composed-of the usual side and ends rails, similar to A and B, respectively, said frame having secured thereto a Woven wire fabric, or other suitable material, not shown.

In the drawings, of my-invention, I have only illustrated a post atone end of the frame, but it is to be understood that the construction-shown is duplicated at the opposite end.

This post is indicated by the letter C, andthe upper portion thereof forms one of the side pieces of the ordinary head or foot board of a bed or cot, and the lower portion of the leg or support.

The letter D indicates a strap which is pivoted at its inner end to the inner side of the side rail A, while its outer end is formed into a headed portion, having an elongated inward-inclined slot cl therein. Through this slot, and entering the end post, passes a headed bolt E. The bolts, when the cot is in an upright position, as illustrated in Fig. 3, are in the upper ends of the elongated slots, and as said slots are inclined'inward, the distance between the bolts and the pivot pins of the inner endsof thestraps is necessarily diminished, which, of course, has the effect of drawing the end posts close against the end piecesB, and firmly locking said posts to their adjusted upright positions, to be unlocked only by the application of force to the under side of the frame. It will also be noticed that when the cot is in its upright position the end rails B rest upon the straps, medially between their respective bolts and, therefore, more firmly press the slotted ends of the straps down, so that the bolts are held securely in the upper ends of the slots. Any weight on the cot will, of course, still further secure a close connection of the end rails with the frame.

When it is desirsd to fold up the cot, a slight blow is' given to the under side of the frame at one end, which will have the efiect of raising said frame slightly, and thereby loosening the connection between the same and the end posts. If the cot is now elevated at this end, the end posts and legs may be readily turned under, so as to lie against the under edge of the side pieces as illustrated in Fig. 1. The other end of the cot is now manipulated in the same manner.

When it is desired to unfold the cot, all that is necessary is simply to turn the end posts back to the position illustrated in Fig. 2, and then by exerting force downward on the cot frame, the strap is pressed down, so as to bring the bolt to' the upper end of the slot, as illustrated in Fig. 3.

From the above,it will be seen that by pro= viding a strap of sufficient length, and having a pivotal connection at one end and an inclinedslot at the opposite extremity to receive a bolt, the posts may be readily folded under so as to lie wholly beneath the side rails of the cot body, while, on the other hand, when the cot is in its erect position, and the frame forced down its full extent, as indicated in Fig. 3, the distance between'the bolt working in the inclined slot and the pivotal point is decreased, whereby, by reason of the fact that the bolt in the slot occupies the upper end of said slot, the posts and the frame are brought more closely together, and'firmly held in such position. At the same time when it is desired to fold the posts beneath'the frame, said posts are easily released from the cot body or frame with very little exertion, by reason i of the bolt "sliding down to the lower point of the slot.
