Description

(No Model) B. M. ANTISDBL.
FOLDING BED.
N0. 564,46 5 Patented July 21, l 96.
.E'QBEJTE M, Wm
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EGBERT M. ANTISDEL, OF UTIOA, NEW YORK.
FOLDING BED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,465, dated July 21, 1896.
Application filed April 7, 1896. Serial No. 586,513- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EGBERT M. ANTISDEL, of Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Beds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of my folding bed in open position. Fig. 2 shows the same in partially-folded position. Fig. 3 shows a side view in completely-folded position. i 4 shows, on a larger scale, partially in section, the bed in partially-folded position. Fig. 5 shows, on the same scale, parts of the bed in open or extended position.
The head-frame of the bed consists of two long legs 1 1, connected together by suitable bars and provided with spindles to form a head, and of two short legs 2 2, connected to the long legs 1, as shown, and the whole coupled together by cross-bars to form a rigid head-frame. The side rails 3 3, in connection with the cross-bars 4 5 and in connection with the fabric 6, stretched thereon, form the bed-bottom of this folding bed. The head end of the bed-bottom is supported when in open position on the cross-bar 7, extending between the upper ends of the short legs 2, and the bed-bottom is coupled to the headframe bya pair of links 8 and 9 on each side of the bed-bottom, the link 8 being pivoted at one end on the cross-bar 7 and at the other end at 10 to the bed-bottom, while the link 9 is also pivoted at 10 to the bed-bottom and is secured at the other end upon the crossbar 11 of the head-frame, the bar 11 passing through a slotted opening 9 in the link 9. The length and arrangement of the links 8 and 9 are such that they will allow of the opening and closing of the bed-bottom and support the same in closed position, as shown in Fig. 3. The bed-bottom is secured in its folded or closed position by a hook 12 on the upper end of the post 1, engaging with a pin 13 on the side rail of the bed-bottom.
The foot of the bed is supported by the folding legs 14 14, which, in connection with their intermediate cross-bars and spindles, form a foot-board, and the legs 14, with their foot-board, are capable of folding, by reason of being held by the pair of pivoted braces 16 and 17 to each of the legs 14. Between the side rails 3 of the bed I locate a seat 17, which is pivoted to the bed-bottom at 18 and is supported on the cross-rod 7 of the headframe. The arrangement of this seat is such that it does not interfere with the opening of the bed, and when the bed is closed or folded it automatically comes into position to serve as a seat, thereby making the bed a useful article of furniture in its folded position.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination in a folding bed of the head-frame, the bed-bottom, the cross-bar 7 on which the bed-bottom is adapted to be supported, the seat pivoted between the side rails of the bed-bottom, and also supported by bar 7, and the links 8 and 9 securing the bed-bottom in the head-frame, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a folding bed of the head-frame, the bed-bottom, the cross-bar 7 on which the bed-bottom is adapted to be supported and the links 8 and 9 securing the bedbottom in the head-frame and supporting it in folded position, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of three witnesses.
EGBERT M. ANTISDEL.
