2 Claims.
This invention relates to renewable filler pads and to covers or supports therefor.
It is the general object of my invention to provide improved and simplified means for securing 5 successive pads in a cover or to a support, whereby the pads may be easily attached and positively retained during use, and whereby the expense of manufacture of the pads and covers or supports is substantially reduced.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention is shown in the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a notebook embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 is a back view of a renewable pad, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged partial side elevation of the pad, looking in the direction of the arrow 3 in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, I have shown a cover which may be made of cardboard or any other suitable material and which comprises a back portion III, a front portion II and a top or hinge portion l2. It will be understood that the top I2 is flexibly connected to the adjacent edges of the back portion and front portion II.
The renewable filler pad is shown as comprising a plurality of sheets M of note or writing paper, these sheets being preferably perforated along the line l5 and being firmly secured together and to a back l8, as by staples 20 and a binding strip 2|. The back I8 is usually of cardboard or other relatively firm material.
A strip S of strong paper or other suitable sheet material is glued to the rear side of the back l8, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and is provided with a gummed rear surface.
When it is desired to insert a filler pad in a cover, it is merely necessary to dampen the gummed surface of the strip S and to then press the filler pad firmly against the inner surface of the back portion ID of the cover.
It will be obvious that the parts H and I2 of the cover may be omitted, leaving the back In only to serve as a support for the renewable pads. For such use, the back l0 may be made of increased size and of any suitable material, with appropriate ornamentation.
The pad is thus firmly held in place when attached as above described and will be securely held until the sheets I4 have all been used and a new pad is required. The back l8 of the pad can then be torn away from the back HJ of the cover or from the support, and the cover or support is then ready to receive a new pad as previously described.

Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I'claim is:
1. A refillable notebook comprising a permanent cover and a renewable filler pad said pad having a relatively firm back to which the leaves of the pad are secured, and said back having a portion of sheet material secured to the rear face thereof and initially provided with a gummed outer surface by which said pad is attachable to an inside surface of said cover.
2. A renewable filler pad comprising a relatively firm back, a plurality of sheets of paper secured to said back, and a portion of sheet material secured to the outer rear face of said back and initially provided with a gummed outer attaching surface.
