One end of casing 15 is of Fig. 2 is a view,.part1y in elevation and partly course open, while the other end 19 is solid and in section, of the top part ofthe can of Fig. 1, mperforate Peripheral wall 20 of casing 15 is 755 the can cover being raised and the attachment, provided 4with a plurality of perforations V21, sub- `A110 stantially as illustrated. The casing 15 is made of relatively heavy gauge metal. l
The retaining means, aforementioned, consists essentially of a strip of metal fabricated to form a wedge-shaped locking lug 22-disposed on plate 13, see Figs.- 3 and 4. A coacting springy socket 23 is securely mounted on the juxtaposed portion of, casing 15. VConvenient means for opening casing 15 against the action of yspringyfsocket 23 is provided in the form ofha'ndle 24 aixed to casing 15 by means of bracket 25.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the attach- Ament is exactly thev same as that heretofore described, except that it is appliedfto the bottom 1la of can 10at in inverted position. In this case, handle 24 provides convenient means for lifting casing 15 to the position shown in Fig. 5. Any desirable or suitable form of disinfectant material may be disposed in containervl4. If solid, it is placed directlywithin the container; if liquid, it -may be applied to waste or the like which is then placed in the' container. The chemical vapors evolved from the disinfectant pass into the interior of the garbage can throug openings 21 of the Yprotective casing 15.
In the event that thechemical vapors of the disinfectant material used are heavier than air, the attachment provided by the present invention is mounted on the top of the can. If the dis infectant vapors are lighter than air, the device is mountedras illustrated in Fig. 5. In either case., protector casing 15 protects the disinfectant and container 14 from beingrcrushed by or against the refuse and from becoming contaminated therewith. Imperforate end 19 is of particular value in this connection, especially when the attachment is used on the bottom of the garbage can.
Although the preferred form of the invention has been described in some detail, it is not intended thereby to limit the scope of the invention or otherwise than by the terms of the claims hereunto appended.
What is claimed is: Y
1`. An attachment of the character described,
v.particularly adapted for use with conventional garbage can constructions, said attachment comprisinga base plate, means for attaching said plate tosaid can construction, a disinfectant container hingedly mounted on said base plate by means of a spring hinge, a'substantially cylindrical protector casing hingedly mounted on said .base plate and adapted to substantially encase saidAdisinfectant container, and means to retain said casing in encasing position, said 'casing including a Yperforated peripheral wall andan imperforate end.
2. The construction defined in claim 1,'said retaining means consisting of a locking lug mounted onsaid base plate and a springy socket mounted on said casing, said lug and socket being adapted for interlocking engagement.
3. Ihc constructionV dened in claim 1, said disinfectant container. being of screen construction, and-said. casing being of heavy gauge metal NAJAM MODAD.
