UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIGE.
ABRAHAM GOLDBAOK, OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,454, dated April 10, 1877; application filed March 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM GOLDBAOK, of Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Matches or other Articles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boxes for matches or other articles.
According to my invention, I construct a case or cover from a continuous sheet of paper, card-board, wood, or :other suitable material, which, when creased or scored and folded, shall form two or more compartments or chambers for the reception of slides or drawers capable of receiving and holding matches or other articles, the nature of which will be more fully described by the description of the drawings.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a blank adapted to form a case or cover, with two compartments or chambers, one above the other. Fig. 2 represents an end view of a case or cover formed from the same. Fig. 3 shows a section, and Fig. 4. a perspective view, of a complete box constructed according to my invention, having an external wrapper applied around the same In Fig. 1, A represents a blank adapted to form a case or cover according to one modification of my invention, having two coinpartments or chambers adapted to receive two slides or drawers, one above the other.
The blank A, according to this modification, is creased or scored on the dotted lines A, and, when so creased or scored, is folded on a slide or mandrel, so that the parts still assume the position shown by Fig. 2.
By reference to the drawings it will be readily seen that the parts a, a, a", and a on each side of the part a are duplicates, one of the other, which, when folded, as shown by Fig. 2, form duplicate compartments or chambers B, while the part 0, forms the back of the case or cover, the parts a a serving to strengthen the completed case or cover.
After the blank A has been folded into the form shown by Fig. 2, the parts a a are glued or pasted or otherwise attached to the part a, thereby forming two complete compartments or chambers, B, for the reception of the slides or drawers G, Figs. 3 and 4.
The compartments or chambers B, when so formed, may be either further connected by gluing, pasting, or otherwise connecting the adjacent surfaces of the parts M, or by the application of an external Wrapper, l), as shown by Figs. 3 and 4., upon which may be applied the name, address, or other advertisement of the firm using my improved boxes.
Fig. 5 shows a blank adapted to form a case or cover according to my invention, with the compartments or chambers B arranged side by side, in place of one above the other, as shown by the previous figures.
Fig. 6 shows the same blank folded into position, and Fig. 7 represents a section of a complete case or cover, with its inclosed slides or drawers 0.
Fig. 8 shows a blank adapted to form a case or cover according to my invention, with three compartments, B, arranged one above the other, each adapted to receive a slide or drawer, C.
Fig. 9 represents the same blank folded into position, and Fig. 10 shows a completed case or cover, with three compartments, B, constructed according to this modification.
According to this modification, the parts a a a? a a are formed of unequal dimensions, and the parts a, a, and a are connected together on one side, while the parts a a are connected together on the other side.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A drawer case or cover consisting of a continuous sheet of paper, card-board, wood, or other suitable material, creased and folded so as to form two or more compartments or chambers, adapted to receive slides or drawers, for the reception of matches or other articles, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ABRAHAM GOLDBAGK.
