Description

(N0 Model.)
0. P. B. PEG K. BOX WITH TWO OOMPARTMENTS.
No. 487,042. Patented Sept. 23, 1890- WITNESSES:
ZQ M M W UNITED STATES CHARLES r. B. rnox,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
BOX WITH TWO COMPARTMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,042, dated September 23, 1890.
Application filed February 7, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES P. B. PEoK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boxes or Cases, of which thefollowingis a specification.
My invention consists of a box or case of boxboard, leather, or other suitable material, made of one piece, cut to the shape desired, and folded .to form two distinct compartments united at their base by a continuation of the web, so as to permit of their being opened at the top away from each other, and provided with a suitable clasp (also of the same piece of material) to close and secure them together, all as hereinafter more fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a view of the box or case in perspective, partially opened, in good position for removal of contents. Fig. 2 rep resents a plan view of the'sheet spread out flat after it has been out to the proper shape and previous to folding, dotted lines showing where the sheet or blank is to be folded.
On the drawings, A indicates one receptaole, and B the other.
0 indicates the clasp -flap, which, when folded over, engages with a slit D in the opposite side of the opposite compartment, se curing both parts together and covering the opening. The material is cutaway or curved, as shown at E, to facilitate removal of contents. The twopar'ts are connected at F, each having its own bottom, the web continuation F being outside of the bottom of each receptacle, and left free, so that each bottom rises away from it as opened. The flap ct, folded at right angle to the sheet, forms the bottom of the receptacle A, and the flap b, folded at right angle to the sheet, forms the bottom of receptacle B.. The parts 0 and d form the two faces of" receptacle A, and the parts 6, f, and 9 form the edge or side faces thereto. The fold is made where shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
To complete thereceptacle A and strengthen and secure its bottom in position, the parts 0 and p are turned so as to fit thereto either over or under the bottom flap 0t, and pasted,
Serial No. 263,320. (No model.)
stitched, or otherwise secured thereto. The outer edges of the flaps e and g are lapped, and also pasted, stitched, or otherwise secured together, and the receptacle A is complete. The receptacle B is formed up in the same manner, the flap b becoming its bottom, with (after folding) the parts m and n lapping and secured thereto, the parts it and '6 constituting its main faces, and the parts j, k, and Z forming the edges of the receptacle, j and Z being lapped and secured together.
I do not confine myself to material, but use paper, box-board, leather, &c.
The parts where united may be secured by pasting, stitching, or riveting, and if metal is used, by soldering, brazing, &c.
The two receptacles are twins, joined by the web F, and when closed united at the top by the clasp 0. They may be opened so as to spread out fiat. They are intended for cigarettes, cigars, candies, chocolates, pencils, crayons, tablets, and many other articles which dealers may find desirable to sell in cases.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A box comprising two receptacles or compartments Aand B, each having its own bottom, the receptacles being held in union at their'base by a web F, extending from the outermost bottom edge of each, to which edges it is united, but not elsewhere, so that the two receptacles may be opened away from each other, essentially as shown and described.
2. A box or case of two receptacles or compartments A and B, held together by a web F, the receptacle A, formed of the parts 0, d, e, f, and g, folded so that the parts 6 and g overlap, and the part a, forming its bottom with the parts 0 and p lapped thereto, the edges where lapped or joined being secured together, the receptacle B, formed of the parts It, 6, 3,70, and Z, folded so that the parts j and l overlap, and the part 17, forming its bottom, with the parts m and n lapped thereto, the edges where lapped being secured together, essentially as shown and described.
CHAS. P. B. PEOK.
