COMBINED CIGAR AND MATCH CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1917.
Application led J' anuary`21, 1916.. Serial No. 73,487.
To all 'whom t may conce/m.'
Be it known that I, JOHN A. MCCASKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hagerhill, in the county of Johnson and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Cigar. and Match Cases, 'of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an advertising novelty so constructed as to contain a number of cigars and a quantity of matches.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which may be formed from a blank of material having flaps, one of which is provided with upstruck portions so arranged that when the flap is folded and secured to the case body the front and back of the case provide supplemental compartments upon opposite sides of a main compartment formed within the case by said liap.
Another object of the invention is to provide a blank from which the case is'formed with a flap which forms the back of the case and is provided with a supplemental flap having a tongue for insertion in one of the supplemental pockets when the supplemental iiap is closing the main compartment and one of the supplemental compartments at the side thereof.
A still further object of-the Vinvention is to provide the case with a main compartment which is collapsible so that, cigars when placed in the case are prevented from becoming cracked or broken.
A still further object of the invention isy to provide a blank from which the case may be formed having upon certain portions thereof an adhesive material so placed, that the device may be easily assembled after shipment, thus reducing the expense incidental to the shipment of the cases.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out inthe claims.
The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, although nov restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of thezlaims may be resorted to when so deslr In the drawing: l
Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of a combined cigar and match case constructed in accordance with the invention.
lF ig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig.l l.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. t
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the blank from which the case isformedpartly folded and having a portion thereof broken away.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the case is formed. f
Like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the lseveral views in the drawing. l
The numeral 41 designates a blank from which the case may be formed and which may be struck from cardboard or the like which has been pressed and finished to imitate leather, said blank being scored to porvide main flaps 2 andi.
rIhe flap l2 is provided with spaced and vertically extending score lines which divide the main flap 2 into supplemental flaps 5, each of which is provided in its upper marginal edge with a recess 6 and a depressed portion 7 below said recesses, said supple-` mental flaps 5 having the face thereof in vwhich is formed the depressed portion covered with an adhesive substance asv indicated ii Fig. 5 in the drawing by the numeral 8. Y
Extending vertically the entire height of the main flap 2 intermediate the score lines 4 are similar score lines 9 which permit the supplemental flaps 5 when folded along the score lines 4 to provide a main compartment l0 for disposition within the case and to receive therein cigars.
The main iap 8 adjacent flap 2 is provided with horizontally extending score lines 1l which permit the flap 3 to be 'folded upwardly upon one of the supplemental flaps 5 and to be secured thereto-by means of the -adhesive substance on said flap so that, the flap 3 which -lforms the back of the case will overlie one of the depressed portions 7 in a supplemental flap 5 and co- 05 of matches.
The main flap 3 is again scored at its u@ Y plemental flaps 5 lower end, as indicated at 13 to provide a supplemental flap 14C, said flap having a tongue 15 for disposition within a supplemental compartment 16 arranged between case is formed..
It will of course be understood that the Y blanks are shipped in an unfolded condition so that any desirable advertising matter may be imprinted thereon as the occasion may require and may be folded into the-combined cigar and match case by irst folding the main flap 2 and securing one of vthe supformed therefrom to the portion of the blank which forms the front wall ofthe case. The main flap 3 is then folded and secured to the other supplemen tal flap thus providing a main-compartment within the case having supplemental compartments upon opposite sides thereof for the reception of matches, while the scored lines 9 and 11 permit the collapse of the main compartment when not in use.
The portion of the blank which forms the front of the case is provided near its top Vwith some suitable substance upon which may be struck the matches contained in the supplemental compartments 12 and 16, while the portion of the blank which serves Copies of this patent may be obtained for as vthe front of the case and the flap 3 assume such position when the blank is folded as to display any advertising matter printed thereon.
From `the foregoing statements taken in Vconnection with the accompanying drawing 1t 1s at once apparent that a combined cigar l and match case has been provided which is simple in construction and inexpensive of manufacture, yet highly efficient in use.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is: f
A combined cigar and match case formed from a blank of material having a flap provided with a tongue, a second flap upon the blank foldable upon the body of the blank toprovidea collapsible compartment with- JOHN A. MGCASKEY.
