GOMBINATIYI'IN.CIGARETTE Ann mncu BOX. (Application mea'mw. s, 1900.

ISAAC BERTIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION CIGARETTE AND MATCH BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 666,732, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed November 8} 1900. Serial No. 35,793. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ISAAC BERTIN, acitizen of Russia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Cigarette and Match Boxes, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cigarette and match boxes, and one object thereof is to provide an improved combination-box of this class which is designed to hold both'cigarettes and matches.
A further object is to provide a' box of the class specified which is composed of two blanks, from which the body of the box is made, and a easing into which the body portion of the box is inserted.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification,of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved combination cigarette and match box. Fig. 2 is a box plan view of one of the blanks from which the body portion of the box is made. Fig, 3 is a similar view of the other blank; and Fig. 4, a perspective view of the body portion of the box, showing the manner of folding the blanks and putting them together.
In the practice of my invention I cut from any suitable paper, preferably stiff paper or cardboard, two blanks a and b, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The blank (1 comprises a body portion a two side portions a and two end portions a and a and the end portion a is provided with an extension a and the end portion a with an extension a and the side portions a are separated from the body portion a by dotted lines a", while the end portions a and a are separated from the body portion by dotted lines a, and the extensions a and 01. of the end portions 0, and a are separated from said end portions by means of dotted lines o and 0 respectively. The end portion a is also separated from the body portion by transverse side slits d and is provided with a tongue (1 formed by curved side slits d and integral with the body portion, while the ends of the sides a are separated from the end portion a by longitudinal slits d and from said side portions by dotted lines d The blank b consists of a body portion 1) and an end portion bihaving an extension b ,which is provided with a surface I), adapted to be sealed to acorrespondingsurface on the blank, as hereinafter described, and said body portion b is also provided with side portions 17 separated therefrom by dotted lines 12 as is also the end portion h The body portion a of the blank a is also provided adjacent to the end portion of, with a surface g, adapted to be sealed to the surface I) of the blank b, and the blanks a, and b are folded and placed together to form the body of the box, as shown in Fig. 4, and the dotted lines show where the blanks are to be folded. In this operation the surfaces b and g, one or both of which are gummed, sealed together, and the end portions 19 and b of the blank I) being inserted into one end of the casing formed by folding the blank a and secured therein so as to form a match-receptacle h, while the opposite end of said casing is intended to receive the cigarettes, as shown at k, and the body portion b of the blank 1) forms a partial cover for the cigarettes, and when the end pieces are folded closely they cover, in connection with the body portion 1) of the blank b, both matches and cigarettes, and the body portion of the box thus formed is inserted into a casing m, as shown in Fig. 1.
It will thus be seen that I provide a box of the class described which is simple in construction and comparatively inexpensive. When the box is in the casing m, it may be moved in either direction in said casing, and the parts a and 037 of the blank a form flaps which cover the cigarettes and the matches, and by moving the body of the box in the desired direction either the matches or the cigarettes may be taken out.
The body portion of the box is indicated in Fig. l by the reference character 'n, and both ends of the casing m are open, and the body portion of the box may be slid out at either end, as will be readily understood.
Having fully described my invention, I said blanks a, and b being folded together, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters substantially as'shown and described. Patent- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as A box of the class described comprising a my invention Ihave signed my name, in pres- 5 casing open at both ends, and a body portion ence of the subscribing witnesses, this 5th 15 adapted to slide in said casing said body porday of November, 1900.
tion being composed of two blanks a and b, ISAAC BEHTIN. the blank at having two folding side and two Witnesses: folding end portions, and the blank I) having F. A. STEWART,
I0 two folding sides and one folding end portion, LOUIS A. GUIDICE.
