Description

T. MASAC.
FASTENINGS FOR GLOVES, Sac.
Patented Feb. 27, 1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEOPHILUS MASAO, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR GLOVES, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,879, dated February 27, 1877 application filed January 15, 1877.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, THEOPHILUS MASAO, of Philadelphia, in the countyof Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening for Gloves, 8m; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a representation of a glove with fastening applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastening-pieces disconnected. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same pieces connected as in fastening.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved fastening for gloves, which may be manufactured at a slight expense, and which shall be simple, strong, durable, ornamental in appearance, reliable, and comfortable, and which shall be adapted to serve the purposes of two or more buttons, or other equivalent glove-fastening now in use.
The invention consists of two strips of thin sheet metal, stamped out of a suitable sheet or plate, and provided with points or projections to be inserted in the glove, and secured by clinching on the inner side. These strips are placed on opposite sides, respectively, of the wrist-slit. One of them is formed with hooks, which catch on the other when the two are brought properly together.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates a kid-glove, formed with the usual wrist-slit at B, as shown. C O are the fastening devices, consisting of two equal-sized strips of metal, having their ends pointed and bent, so that the latter may be inserted in the glove and clinched on the inner side. Laterally, projecting points 0 c are also provided for additional security in attaching the fastenings. The strip 0 is formed with two or more lateral projections, 01 d, which are bent at the ends, so as to form hooks. The two devices are attached to the glove, as shown, and in fastening the hooks d dare simply made to catch the strip 0, which gives sufficient purchase.
The advantages of the fastening described are too obvious to require special mention. The inconvenience of insecure buttons is obviated, and all the advantages of two or more of the same, or other equivalent fastening, fully obtained. The shape and method of attaching the fastening renders it very secure, and impossible to be removed under ordinary usage.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the strip 0, having pointed projections for attachment to the glove and hooks d d, with the similarly-pointed holding-strip 0, adapted to receive the hooks and form a fastening, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of January, 1877.
THEOPHILUS MASAO.
