NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12 1906.
Application filed August 21,1905- Serlal No. 275,098.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED HIRSH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, strong, and efficient clasp which may be easily manipulated; and this object I attain by certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front plan or view of my improved clasp; Figs. 2 and 3,'a rear and side view, respectively; and Fig. 4, a section on line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The clasp consists of two membersa I front plate 1 and a back plate 2which are hinged together at one end, as at 3. One member of the claspthe back, as here illustratedis provided with a spring-tongue 4,
the base of which is secured to the plate 2' near its hinged end. This spring is preferably an integral art of the plate and is formed, as shown, y making two lateral and one connecting end cut through the plate. Upon the free or outer end of the spring 4 is mounted or formed as an integral part thereof an inwardly-projecting post or stud 5, provided with a head or detent 6, which as the two clasp members are brought together is adapted to snap past and engage with the edge of an orifice 7, formed in the other or front member, thus locking the two members together. When thus locked, it will be found that the clasp cannot be easily unlocked by drawing or pulling the free ends of its two members apart; but this can readily be effected by lightly ressing the head back and away from the e ge of the orifice. The
back plate may, if desired, be provided with holes 8 8 or with other suitable means by which it can be attached to the garment or other article with which it is to be used. The clasp may be used as a buckle for a belt or waistband and in various other ways and for various other purposes.
The two clasp members are made of sheet metal or any other suitable material and, with the spring-tongue as a part of one of them, may be stamped out and shaped by a single operation of suitable dies. The clasp is simfile, easily and cheaply manufactured, strong,
urable, and eflicient.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A clasp consisting of two hinged members and a spring-tongue attached to one of said members and having at its outer end an inwardly-projecting stud, the head of which is adapted to snap past and engage with an edge of the other of said members.
2. A clasp consisting of two hinged mem bers to one of which is attached a springtongue having at its free end an inwardlyprojecting stud, the head of which is adapted to snap past and engage with the edge of an orifice formed in the other member.
3. A clasp consisting of two hinged members, a spring-tongue formed in and as a part of one member and having an inwardly-projecting headed stud mounted upon its free end, and an orifice in the other member opposite said stud, the head of said stud being adapted to snap past and engage with the edge of said orifice as the two members are brought toward each other.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
