To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZoHETH S. DURFEE, of the city, county, and State ot' New York, haveiniented Improvements in the Construction of Shirts and similar articles of clothing,

is a specification This invention relates to the construction of the bosoms or fronts of such garments, and their attachment to said garments; and consists in making two bosoms or fronts for each garment or shirt, one front being sewed or firmly attached to onel side of the shirt, and the other to the other side, each being free to be opened at the side opposite to that by which it is fastened, and the two fronts heilig combined so as to close one over the other, somewhat similarly to the operation of doublebreasted coats and vests, either front being made outmost, at will of wearer.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents the shirt with both fronts closed, oth fronts opened to admit its being put on.

It will readily be understood from the drawings that two fronts of and finish and of be put into one shirt, must be such that the ton holes b b c to each other wh different style different materials can but the construction several stud or butcl c2 c3 shall be opposite ichever front may be exposed, and the studs or buttons used should pass through both ythe fronts when the garment is in wear. I do not Iind it absolutely necessary to use both of the stud or button holes c1 and c2, as one, at c1, seems to sufce; but both may be used, or either, as may be preferred.

The holes c3 to the body of are for fastening the two fronts the shirt, the space from e to c being generally left unfastened, to give the fronts, when closed, more flexibilityv than they would have if fastened more. completely to the body of the shirt. If desired to fasten the loose sides of the fronts more completely across the breast,tastei1ings may be used along those edges, as at c4; but I do not iind such necessary.

Having thus described my the mode of carrying the what I claim is- A shirt having neck-bands,
