GARMENT-FLY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 3, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM D. GOFFIN, a subject of Nicholas II, Emperor of Bussia, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Flies, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to. the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to a new and improved garment fly, having for its object, among other things, to provide a fly for a garment that may be produced at the minimum cost, will wear longer than those now in common use and will not be drawn out of shape by use to make the garment appear untidy and aged.
To these, and other ends, my invention consists in the garment fly, having certain details of construction, as herein set forth and more particularly described in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate like parts in the several figures: Figure 1 is a front view of a portion of a garment having my improved fly connected therewith; Fig. 2 is a similar view looking toward the opposite side of the garment; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view upon line AB of Fig. 2.
In the type of garment fly now in general use, it is impossible to make the garment with a so-called double edge, the fly must be faced upon the inside as well as the garment itself, and in time the fly is pulled out beyond the edge of the garment, giving it improperly the appearance of age. These objections are eliminated in my improvement, and in addition thereto I am enabled to make the fly with such reinforcements and edging that it will outwear the other parts of the garment.
That portion of the garment adjacent to the buttonhole is made of two thicknesses of cloth 1 and 2, as is usual with the outer edges thereof, stitched at 3 to make a double edge, and at i to secure them together, the inner piece 2 having the button hole 5 therein and between it and the outer edge is the opening 6 extending above and below the buttonhole, with the edging 7 surrounding it to prevent wear and add to the appearance of the garment.
With my improved fly the garment is buttoned and unbuttoned by passing the fingers through the slot 6 and manipulating the piece of cloth 2 so as to pass the button through the button-hole 5, as is common.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment fly, consisting of two pieces of cloth, secured together, with a closed edge, one of said pieces having a button hole therethrough and a slot therein adjacent to said button hole, but at an angle thereto.
2. A garment fly, consisting of two pieces of cloth, secured together by separated lines of stitching so as to have a closed edge, one
of said pieces having a button hole and ag slot therethrough, both being between said lines of stitching.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
