Description

GARIIENT SUPPORTER Filed may 22, 1956 zvjzaaw- Patented Jan. 6, 1931 f UN ' CHARLES w. HoBAR'r, on Bossen,y MA's'sAcnUsETiis Application led' Mayf 22,
rl`his invention relates to garters or hoser structure of the hose-connecting members,
and another object isfto provide a structure which will be comfortable in use.
With saidA objects in View, the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts substantially as I hereinafter described and claimed.
Of the accompanying drawings ligy rel is an elevation of a complete garter constructed according to my invention.
Figure 2 represents a section on line 2 2 of Figure l.
Figures 3 and 4 are views similar to a p0rtion of Figure 1, but illustrating the connecting members in differenty relative positions which they occupy during manipulation.
Simili ary reference characters designate similar parts or features in all of the views. In Figure 1 an ordinary leg-surrounding band is illustrated at `12 and having asuitable pad 13 which is usually of two-ply ma*` terial as indicated in Figure 2. Secured to and depending from the pad 13'is a flexible strip 14 of elastic material capable of stretchf ing under tension.
metal, celluloid, hard rubber, or suitable equivalent thereof, has a slot 16 near its upper end and is bent above said slot to provide a lug 17, and near its lower end has a stud or button 18 of ordinary or preferred form.
The elastic strip 14e, at an intermediate y point of its length, is doubled and passes through the slot 16 in thestiff strip l5 to provide an elastic loop in which the loopshaped clasp 19 is hung, said clasp having a bent lower end portion to provide a lug 20. The portion of the elastic strip 14, below its loop which extends through the slot 1G of the stiff strip 15, extends down along the back of the said stiff strip and over the lower A stubstantially rigid or stiff strip l5, of'

I f fInf operation, connection is Amade-...with 1a stocking :1in practically fthe `.usual jway, vbut su'chalconnection is 'facilitated' :as: will now be explained.. Y Theelastic; strip 14 has-several' advantageous characteristics, viz: its portion above theSljot lfp'rovid'es an elastic connection with the pad y13 kor any equivalent thereof and therefore tends to aid in comfort to the wearer, its elastic loop in which the clasp member 19 is hung yieldingly holds the clasp member and button in operative relationship as above described, and its lower portion provides a backingfor the stiff strip 15 and protects the skin of a wearer, or an undergarment, from injurykor wear due to said stiff strip. Assaid strip 14 is a single piece of article visl materially less than if separate pieces were secured together for the same or similar purposes. f Owing to the fact that the stiff vstrip 1 B5 p .material, the cost of production of the entire has a forwardlyprojecting lug 17 at its upper end, above the slot 16, whilethe clasp member 19 has a forwardlyprojecting lug at its lower end, the device may be operated by one hand either when connectingit to a garment or disconnecting it therefrom. By' forcing or pressing the lugs 17 and 21 toward each other after a garment has been laid over the stud or button 18strong and positive connection with the garmentis obtained. On
