UNITED STATES DANIEL B. JACOBS, O'F SWAN VALLEY, OHIO.
GARTER.
Application filed March 26, 1924. Seria1 No. 702,091.
T all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, DANIEL BRADFORD Jaoons, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Swan Valley, in the county of Bonneville and State of Idaho, have invented a new and Improved Garter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in garters, and has for one of its objects the provision of a garter of simple and practical construction which will eiiectively support the hose without necessitating the use of an elastic leg encircling band, which has been found to lose its elasticit-y'in a comparatively short space of time, and which oftentimes causes a disagreeable binding action upon the leg.
Another object is to provide a garter which may be produced at a minimum cost and in which the leg encircling band may be used indefinitely by reason. of having the hose supporting means detachably connected to the band so that said means, when worn out, may be discarded andreplaced thus avoiding the necessity of purchasing a complete new garter.
The above and other objectswill appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, ,which illustrates preferred embodiments of the inventive idea.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a front elevation of one form of the invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary edge elevation of the garter attaching means; and
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a link member employed in connection with the garter attaching means.
Referring more particularly to Figures 1 to 8, the garter is shown as comprising a pad 5 made of any suitable material, such as leather or the like, and to which is connected one end of a leg encircling band 6 formed of in use.
The attaching means, as shown in Figure 1, consists of a coil spring 11, one end of which is detachably engaged with a stud 12 located centrally of the pad 5 while the other end of said spring is connected to one end of a link 13. This link is formed with a cross-piece 1%. adjacent said end to which is attached the strap 15 carrying the stud 16. This strap may be made of the same material as the band .6 and the stud 16 carried thereby cooperates with the link 13 in attaching the garter to a sock.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the hose attaching means may be detached from the pad of the garter should it become worn to such an extent as to be no longer useful and replaced with a. new part thus avoiding the necessity of discarding the entire garter including the leg encircling band.
What is claimed is:
A garter comprising a pad provided with a stud, an inelastic leg band having one end permanently secured to the vpad and its other end detachably secured thereto, a spring having one end detachably engaged with the stud of the pad, a link having a transverse slot at its upper end to the upper memberof which slot the lower end of the spring is secured, and a strap of inelastic material secured to the lower member of the slot of the link and having a stud at its lower end with which the link engages.
