To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH G. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Sn porters; and I do declare the following to e a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art. to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to hose supporters.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed to prevent the formation of varicose veins in the leg which are usually caused by interference with the free flow of the blood through the large vein on the inside of the leg produced by wearing tight garters.

This invention consists in providing a hose supporter with a curved vein-spanning member with which are connected the legencircling band and the hose-engaging elements.

\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 represents a side elevation showing this improved supporter applied; Fig. '2 is an enlarged front elevation thereof with the leg band broken off; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof with parts broken out; Fig. 4 is a transverse section thereof.

In the embodiment illustrated a transversely curved plate 1 is shown composed of metal or other suitable non-yielding material preferably metal. Vertically extending cushioning pads 2 are arranged on the inner face of this plate near its opposite side edges and are designed to prevent abrasion of the skin of the leg and to assist in holding the curved central portion of the plate out of contact with the leg, which central portion is adapted to be positioned over the large vein on the inside of the leg when the device is in use and thus permit the blood to flow through said vein without restriction and thereby prevent the formation of varicose veins. The plate 1 and pads 2 are inclosed in a suitable covering a, preferably of a soft fabric, to give the device a neat appearance and to prevent the metal frombeing in direct contact with the leg of the wearer. As shown this plate 1 has its upper and lower edges curved inwardly as shown at 3 and 4 to reduce the size and weight of the plate, and to provide a narrow curved central portion 3'. One side of the plate is also shown curved inwardly at 5, thus providing four ears as G at the corners thereof. The outer edges 2 of the cushioning plates 2 conform in shape with the contour of the ends of the plate 1.

Hose engaging elements 7 of any desired or suitable construction are secured to the covering a opposite the lower ears and a leg band 8 is secured at one end to the covering a opposite one'of the upper corners of the plate 1 preferably to the one adjacent the curved side of the plate. This leg band is preferably constructed of elastic material and is provided with the usual adjusting buckle or clasp 9 for varying its length. It is also provided with a fastening element 10 adapted to cooperate with another element 11 secured to the covering opposite the outer face of the plate 1 at any desired or suitable point whereby the leg band is detachably engaged with the plate for properly positioning the garter on the leg of the wearer.

From the above description the application of the device and its uses will be obvious and it is therefore not thought necessary to go further into detail, the gist of the invention residing in forming means for protecting the large vein of the leg and preventing the garter from interfering with the flow of blood therethrough.

I claim as my invention:
