Description

No. 882,357. 1 PATENTED MAR. 17, 1908. E. A. TIETJEN.
CHAPING SHIELD.
APPLICATION TILED MAY 26,1905.
ERNEST TIETJEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHAFI'NG- SHIE LD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Application filed May 26, 1905. Serial No. 262,426;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST A. TIETJEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Chafing-Shield, which invention is fully set forth and illustrated in the following specification and accompanying drawing.
The object of this invention is to provide a shield, particularly for women, which can be worn between the limbs and-will prevent chafing when Walking.
The invention will first be described in detail and then set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 shows my improved shield in position upon a woman. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the shield, detached. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through Fig. 2, at the line y y. Fig. 4 shows, in plan, a modified form of shield.
In said figures the number 1 indicates a band composed of two pieces of linen, muslin, or other suitable material, a, b, from the center of which hangs a shield 2, sewed thereto at the points f, f. The dependent shield 2 is composed of two pieces of linen or other suitable material, a, b, sewed together at f and having alining c, of rubber or other equivalent material. The central portion of the band 1 is also preferably lined with rubber a between the points 0c;zz.
The device is intended to be worn in the position shown in Fig. 1, the band 1 passing beneath the body, and its ends being fastened, by means of safety pins 3, or other fastening devices, to a chemise, or any other article of wearin apparel, 4. The shield 2 will hang vertica ly between the legs in the position shown and will effectually revent chafing of the parts-as the wearer wa ks.
In the modified form of device shown in Fig. 4, two shields 2, 2 are shown secured, one at each side, to a central band 1 These shields, when the device is in position, bend downwards along the lines (1, d. The form shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, however, will be found preferable from an economical standpoint. a
The device herein described will be found greatly conducive to the comfort of the wearer; and it is obvious that the shape and arran ement of the various parts may be varie to accomplish the same result, without departing from the principle of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim As a new article of manufacture, a chafing shield composed of a flat band adapted to pass between the legs and beneaththe body from front to back, and having a shield directly secured to the under side of the band and hanging vertically therefrom, said shield and also said band for a distance approximating the width of the shield, being lined with rubber, substantially as set forth.
ERNEST A. TIETJEN. Witnesses:-
