GARMENT-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1920.
Application filed December 15, 1916. Serial No. 137,229.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I IDA M. W'EIsERT, a citizen of the United S tates, residing in the borough of Manhattan of the city of New York, in the county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof,
The object of this invention is to provide means to protect a womans garment from being soiled from within, while at the same time it shall not cause discomfort to the wearer. The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanyinp drawing in which it is illustrated, and in which-- Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the improved protector extended.
Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the protector in position for use.
Fig. 3 is a view of the same in side elevation.
The protector comprises a sheet a of light waterproof fabric, such as is commonly used for dress shields, which is supported from the waist of the wearer and is passed from the rear between the thighs and upward in front of the lower portion of the abdomen, the upper end being then detachably held in position. The means for supporting the waterproof fabric may be varied to suit the convenience of the manufacturer or the comfort of the wearer. In the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing, such means comprises a waist band Z) of any suitable light fabric, the ends of which are provided with a suitable fastening device such as the ordinary snap fastener 0. Light bands d of similar material are secured at their upper ends to the rear portion of the waist band 6 and at their lower ends to the rear upper edge of the waterproof fabric a. From each front upper corner of the Waterproof portion a is extended horizontally a thigh band 6, the front end of each being supported from the Waist band 7) by a vertical band f. Each lower corner of the waterproof portion a I (referring to Fig. 1) is provided with a detachable fastening device such as one portion of an ordinary snap fastener g, the other portion of such fastener being secured to the band 7 at the point where the band 6 is attached thereto. At the middle of the rear portion of the waist band 7) and to one of the ends thereof are secured free bands h to which may be secured, as by safety pins, the ends of the usual sanitary napkin.
The protector is supported entirely from and substantially lower than the waist band 6, together with the sanitary napkin, and the waterproof portion is held in position by the lower band 6 which encircles the person of the wearer below the hips. The Waterproof portion completely protects the clothing of the wearer from contact with the napkin at all points, and at the same time the protector as a Whole is very light in weight and causes no discomfort to the wearer.
I claim as my invention zr A garment protector comprising a waist band having its front ends provided with fasteningmeans, a sheet of waterproof fabric provided at its front corners with fas tening means, vertical bands at the rear connected at their upper ends to the waist band and at their lower ends to the waterproof sheet, horizontal thigh bands connected at their rear ends to the rear corners of the waterproof sheet and extending forward, vertical bands connected at their upperends to the waist band in front thereof, one on each side of the fastening means, and connected at their lower ends to the front ends of the thigh bands, and provided at their lower ends with fastening means to engage the fastening means 011 the front corners of the waterproof sheet, whereby, when the waterproof sheet is in position, its rear upper edge serves to connect the rear ends of the thigh bands and its front upper edge serves to connect the front ends thereof.
This specification signed this 13th day of December, A. D. 1916.
IDA M. WEISERT.
