UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID BILLINGSLEY, or ORIENT, PENNSYLVANIA.
, TROUSERS rnorncroa.
Application filed December 22, 1925. Serial No. 77,113.
My invention relates to trousers protectors, and is intended for ployed in handling materials, or other labor in which the front of the trousers are necessarily subjected to excessive wear and soiling.
Important objects of the invention are to provide a protector of the character described, which will protect trousers against wear and soiling, which may be readily and interchangeably secured to the person of the wearer or removed therefrom and which will not impede the natural actions or movements of the user. I
Further objects of the-invention are to provide a device of the type stated, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, which is 7 simple in its construction and arrangement,
strong, durable and efficient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in vicw'which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de-" scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention hereinafter disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 2
In the drawing wherein like numerals of rable flexible material, preferably leatheix The body portion 1 is primarily adapted to be worn on the front of the trousers and entirely covers thelatter from the waist to below the knees, but it is obvious that the device may also be worn 011 the rear of the trousers if required.
The side edges of the body portion 1 are provided with three pairs of laterally pro-' jecting ears, respectively indicated at 2, 3
and 4. The ears of each air of ears 2, 3 and 4, are horizontally a igned relatively \VOl'klllBll (-3111- to eachother on respective side edgeslof the body portion 1. The side edge portions 5,
disposed intermediate of the pairs of ears side portions .5 and 6 facilitates the conformation of the body portion 1 tothe contour of the body of the wearer, and
permits of the flexure of the body portion 1, without distortion, corresponding to the movements of the user. i
A connecting strap 8, provided with a buckle 9, is securely attached as at 10, to one ear of each pair of ears 2, 3 and 4, and an associated .sccuring strap 11, formed with apertures 12 and adapted to engage the buckles 9 of respective straps 8, is securely attached, as at 13, to the other ear of each of said pair of cars 2, 3 and 4.
The marginal top edge of the body portion 1, is provided with loops 14 for the reception of the belt 15, for maintaining the upper end of the body portion 1 properly supported at the waist. The straps 8 and 9, attachedto the pair of cars 2, are secured around the users thigh close in the crotch. The straps S and 9,.attached to the pair of ears 3, and the straps 8 and 9, attached to the pair of ears 4, are secured around the leg and are disposed respectively above and below the knee.
The marginal side edges of the upper end of the body portion 1 is provided with a plurality of vertically aligned perforations .16. The latter are adapted for the reception of a lace 17, whereby the upper portions of a pair of protectors may be laced together by the wearer if desired to assure greater protection to the trousers.
It will be noted that the protector is adaptable to either leg thereby permitting of the interchange of a pair. of protectors and in many instances prolonging its utility. The use of a pair of my improved protectors, secured to the person in the manner above stated. will protect the entire front of the trousers, from the waist to the knees, from soiling and wear, andprovide an inexpensive and durable protective device which may be readily attached or removed and worn without encumbrance to the wearer.
What I claim is:
A trousers protector comprising a flexible body portion having a rounded lower end, the side edges of said body portion formed 'ith a plurality of pairs of protecting ears, each pair of said ears being horizontally aligned, the side-edge portions ofsaid body portion disposed intermediate of each of said pair of ears being curviliiiearly inset, a connecting strap fixed'to each ear of said pairs of ears, for detachably securing said body portion to the leg of the trousers, the upper marginal edge of said body portion formed With a series oi loops adapted for the insertion of a belt for supporting said body portion at the Waist of said trousers, each marginal side edge of the upper portion of said body portion being formed with a plurality of vertically aligned perforations, substantially as de scribed and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I my signature. 7
