length of the strap, to suit the girth of the wearer and accommodiate variations in the proportions of the garn'ient, so that the waist-portion of the trousers may be made to fit with the requisite snugness and comfort.
The invention consists in a trousers supporter of the said class of improved and novel construction. The features of such trousers supporter provide in convenient and practical manner for ready adjustment and detachable connection of the device in working relations with the waist-portion of trousers.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a view on the order of a perspective of the said embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a top edge view thereof.
Fi 3 is a view on the order of a perspective showing the said embodiment combined with the waist-portion of a pair of trousers.
Having reference to the drawings,-
The trouser-supporter shown therein comprises, as in the case of other devices of the same class, a flexible strap 1 and end-connectors 2, 2. With such parts I combine in distinctive manner one or more intermediate devices 3, .3, having the conjoined functions of adjustment-means and connectors. The strap 1 preferably is composed of a strip of elastic webbingas heretofore in some instances, although it may be composed of inelastic material. The end-connectors 2, 2, are attached to and carried by the strap. In this instance they are in the form of open links having key-hole shaped slots 21, 21, to enable them to be passed over and engaged with buttons 4, 4, Fig. 3, or equivalents thereof, attached to the waist-portion of a pair of trousers 5. Usually, the trouserssupporter will be applied and worn within the garment, and usually, therefore, the buttons 4:, 4-, or equivalent means of engagement,
of trousers will be mounted upon the inner side of the sand waist-portion. The said end-connectors 2, 2, are formed also with transverse slots 22, 22, through whicht-he end-portions of strap 1 extend. The said end-portions bend back around the cross-bars 23, 23. of the endconnectors, and to their extremities are at tached the intermediate combined adjustment-means and connectors 3, 3, as shown in Fig. 2. The said devices 3, 3, are formed with loops 31, 31, which embrace the intermediate portion of the strap 1, and are consequently in sliding engagement therewith. Such sliding engagement provides for adjustment of the effective or working length of the strap, which is effected through sliding the members 3, 3, along the intermediate portion of the strap, toward or from the endconnectors 2, 2, as the case may be. In or.- der to provide for maintaining the adjustment of the effective length of the strap, the members 3, 3, are constructed for engagement with the garment. In this embodiment of the invention such members are provided with safety- pin engaging means 32, 32, which in the use of the trousers-supporter are engaged in the material of the waist-portion of the trousers, as in Fig. 3. As will be perceived, adjustment of the effective length of the strap is effected by sliding one or both of the members 3 toward or from the corresponding end-connector or end-connectors, and the adjustment is maintained by engaging the safety-pin device or devices with the garment. In the making of the said adjustment the loops 31, 31, of the intermediate connectors slide upon the said portion of the strap, but keep the intermediate connectors in proper working relations with the strap in all positions of adjustment, during wear of the tronsers-supporter. The intermediate connectors 3, 3, hold the extremities of the strap and the intermediate portion thereof close together, while they also engage with the waist-portion of the garment to hold the intermediate portions of the strap in place against the garment.
The engagement of the end-connectors with the buttons 4, 4, at opposite points on the interior of the waist-portion of the trousers, and of the intermediate combination adj ustment-members and connectors with the said waist-portion atintermediate points, combines the trousers-supporter with the garment in proper working relations. The
said members 3, 3, hold the intermediate por- Ill tion of the strap from either dropping too low or rising too high, and they also enable the trousers-s11pporter to keep the intermediate partof the waist-portion oil' the trousers under proper control.
It it is desired to simplify the construction, one of the intermediate members 3 may be on'iitted, in which case the strap-extremity which not equipped with such a member will be engaged fixedly with the correspoi'idring end-connector 2.
lVhat is claimed as the invention is 1.. in a trousers supporter comprising a flexible strap, and end-connectors adapted lor detachable engagement with engaging members carried by a garment at opposite points, with at least one end-portion of the strap in looped and sliding engagement with the corresponding end-connector, the combination with the said elements of an intermediate member which is fastened to the ex tremity of such end-portion and is in sliding engagement with the intermm'liate portion of the strap, whereby the e ll'ective length of the strap is adjusted, the said intermediate member having means for lixed engagement with the garment intermediate the end-connectors.
2. In a trousers su 'iporter coni 'irisine' a flexible strap, and end-connectors adapted for detachable engagement with engaging l'llt-Ell'llJGlS carried by a garn'ient at opposite points, with at least one end-portion oi the strap in looped and sliding engagen'ient with the corresponding end-eol'ineetor, the combination with the said elements of an intermediate con'ibiuation adjustment and conneotormember which is fastened to the extremity of such end-portion, said member having a loop eneircling the intermediate portion of the strap and having, further, means for fastening it lixedly .in lengthwise adjusted position to the garment.
l. A trousers supporter con'lprising a flexible strap, end-connectors in sliding connection therewith adapted for detachable engagement with a garment at opposite points and from which the strapextremities are bent back upon the strap itself, and combination adjusting and conmotor-members fastened to the extremities of the return portions of the strap. the said members having loops encircling the strap, and such members also having means lfor engaging the garment and thereby fixing said members and the strap'extremities in lengthwise adjusted iositions.
