Nov. 4, 1930. M. F. ROBISCHON STEP-IN COMBINATION GARMENT Filed oct. 30, 1926 anoemlioa Patented Nov. 4, 1930 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE MICHAEL F. IROBISCHON, F UTICA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO HERBERT ROBISCHON, OF UTICA, NEW YORK STEP-IN COMBINATION GARMENT Application filed October 30, 1926. Serial No. 145,315.
My present invention relates to a step-in combination garment.
The purpose of my invention is to provide a step-in combination garment of new and improved construction and one which is adapted to be widely used either as a step-in combination undergarment or as a one-piece bathing suit.
A further purpose is to provide a garment of the class described which is simple, economical and durable in construction and of such form that it may be readily put on or removed or opened when being worn.
A still further purpose is to provide a step-in combination garment having a closed seat and a closed crotch, but provided with an opening which extends from the bottom of one of the relatively short legs at the front near the crotch upwardly to about the middle front line of the garment and terminates at a point which as the garment is worn is usually about at the waist line or a short distance therebelow and to have said garment provided with releasable fasteners upon the edges of said opening; and further to provide a garment of the type mentioned and having its only opening such as mentioned, of such construction as to provide a fullness at the front and also at the rear of the garment above the crotch so that the single relatively short opening mentioned will be sufficient to allow the garment to be opened as needed for sanitary purposes, and so that the fullness at the crotch between the legFportions may function as a suspensory.
ig. 1 is a front view of a garment embodying my invention about as the garment would appear when worn.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same garment with its lower part spread out in order to more clearly-show the construction.
Fig. 3 is a plan-or pattern view of the rear gore piece and Fig. 4 a similar View of the front gore piece.
Referring to the drawings in a more particular description it will be seen that the garment is a step-in combination garment comprising in a one-piece suit a shirt 6 and short legged drawers 7. The precise form of the upper half of the shut is not material so long as the sleeve openings are large enough and the neck opening large enough and deep enough to let the garment be readily stepped into from the top. For the purpose of illustrating this I have shown the garment as being of the so-calledathletic form, that is with relatively deepand widely cut arm holes 8 and relatively deeply formed neck opening 9 leaving relatively long narrow portions of the garment to formshoulder straps 10. I have shown the garment as provided with a short front opening 11 extending from the neck openin down a short way and closed with a top lltll01l 12. If desired another opening with closing means may be provided at the back of the garment or the back open ing alone may be provided without a front opening. If the neck opening and sleeve openings be sufiiciently ample, no slit such as the openin 11 down from the neck opening is required. he only essential requirement as to the upper half of the shirt is that it be of some sort of step-in type.
The lower part of the garment is provided with the leg openings 12 extending in fromthe lower corners of the garment as seen in Figs. 1
and 2 towards the crotch, but there provided with a closed crotch 13 which is of considerable extent as appears from Fig. 2 connecting the front and the back of the garment between the legs. The fullness between the legs and for a considrable distance up is obtained as appears in Fig. 2 by the garment being wide or very full at its bottom and gradually losing this fullness by tapering off to a normal moderately tight fit of the garment to the body at the waist. This extra fullness may be obtained by cuttingthe front and back each as one whole piece substantially the shapeofthe garmentas seen in Fig. 2, but the preferred, practical and economical method is ,to form the front 14 and back 15 from substantially parallel sided pieces and to centrally slit these pieces from their lower end upwardly far enough to insert therein res ectively the front gore 16 and the back gore 12.
The rear gore 17 is of the shape shown in Fig. 8, that is roughly a relatively long triangle having two long side ed as 18 and 19 and preferably a rounding bottom edge 20 which is connected to the edges 18 and 19 respectively by short sides 21 and 22 respectively.
The front gore 16 is shown upside down in Fig. 4 and similarly forms a rough triangle with two of its corners trimmed off that is this gore has two upwardly extending side edges 23 and 24 and a main bottom edge 25 slanting edges 18 and 19 of the back gore.
drawers, said suit bein shaped form with rounded The short sides 21 and 22'as particularly appears from Fig. 2 add further extent to the leg openings 12. The front gore 16 has its side 24' sewed to the edge 30 of'the slit formed in the fronthalf 14 of the garment while the other main slanting edge 23 of the front gore is detachably secured to the other edge 31 of the slit in the front by a row of detachable fasteners as buttons 32 upon the front engaging button holes in the front gore.
The short sides 26 and 27 of the front gore add further extent to the front of the legs. The lower rounded edge 20 of the back ore is sewed to the lower rounding edge 25 o the front gore-thus completing the garment as appearing in Figs. 1 and 2.
It will now be seen that I have produced a combination garment of unusual simplicity and economy of construction and of improved comfort and convenience. The garment will be entered as a step-in garment or stepped out of in an obvious manner from the top. When needed the garment is opened when upon a person by unbuttoning the row of buttons 32 which afl'ords an ample and convenient opening of the garment. The fullness of the garment at the crotch and for a considerable distance thereabove renders the garment very comfortable and free from bin ing or drawgreater part of the width of the gore pieces and forming a closed-bottomed fullness at the crotch, said gore pieces being secured at their other opposite sides to the edges of said slits and reaching from the top of said slits to the bottom of the garment, one of the upright sides of the front gore being detachably secured, said garment having a closed seat and a closed crotch, and being wider across the seat than the width of the said tubular formed material, the leg portions of said drawers having a circumference adapted to substantially fit the legs of the wearer and extending down only a short part of the distance from the crotch to the knees of the wearer.
In witness whereof I have afiixed my signature, this 12th day of October, 1926.
MICHAEL F. ROBISCHON.
ing. The extra fullness at the crotch especially when the lower edges of the gore pieces are curved as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 adapts the garment to operate after the manner of a suspensory when the garment is worn by a man.
It will be obvious that changes and modifications in the precise size and proportion of the parts and fit of the garment may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention. Y
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
