Description

-S. GARDI.
GOMBINATlON SUlT.
APPLICATION FlLED1UNE26.1920.
1,367,182. Patented Feb. '1, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SOLOMON minor, or sna'rrnn, WASHINGTON.
COMBINATION-swim.
To all whom it man concern a Be it known that I, SOLOMON GARDI, a citi zen" of the United States, and residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Suits, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination suits, and particularly those adapted for use by ladies in athletics, bathing, and the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a combination garment which can be stepped into by the wearer through the upper part of the garment, and when on the wearer is not liable to accidentally slip oil. on account of becoming unhooked or unbuttoned.
Another object of the invention is to pr0- vide a garment with an adjustable waist line so that it will automatically adjust itself to varying waist sizes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment with a plaited waist portion, so that the plaits may be made smaller or let out entirely in order to provide for various sizes of the shoulders and bust.
In view of these objects, it is to be particularly noted that a suit embodying a construction as above noted, is well adapted to be used by growing children whose bust measure, shoulder measure, and other proportions rapidly change within a comparatively short time.
The invention. also comprehends other objects which are particularly pointed out in the following description and claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front view of the combina tion suit.
Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a detail showing the elastic inserted in the waist line, taken on line 3-3 of Fig. l.
1 indicates the nether portion of the garment which is formed like bloomers, and provided at the lower ends of the leg portion with elastic bands 2, to fit tightly around the limbs of the wearer. The waist of the garment is indicated at 3, and is provided with sleeves 4. The waist opens down the front to a point adjacent the waist line as indicated at 5, and may be fastened in any desired manner, being here shown provided with buttons 6 and buttonholes 7.
Specification of Letters Pateiitl Patented F b 1" 1921 Application met June 26, 1920. Serial No. 391,854.
The waist is constructed with a plain neck as. indicated at 8.
i The waist portion 3 and the nether portion 1 are oined at the waistline, which is comparatively full and which is gathered in at each side of the waist line, as indicated at 9. Pieces of elastic 10 are secured in either side of the garment at the waist line portion to the front and rear portions of the garment, as shown in Fig. 3. A fold is formed in the garment which covers the elastic and obscures it from view in the completed garment.
The waist portion of the garment is provided on each side of the neck with a plait 11, stitched at'l2, which extends from the waist line in the front over the shoulders and down the back to the waist line portion. These plaits are provided to give the waist the adjustable features desired for increasmg the shoulder and bust measurements thereof, which is accomplished by ripping out the stitches 12 and making the plaits narrower, or they may be let out entirely.
A belt 13 isprovided which is formed of two sections and which is adapted to fit snugly around the waist. The belt is adjustable to various waist sizes by having the sections provided withbuttons 14 and buttonholes 15, four buttons and buttonholes being provided on each section, so that the four buttons of one section may be engaged in the four buttonholes of the other section, to make a small size or only two buttons may be engaged with two buttonholes, to make a larger size as will be obvious.
It will be noted from the above description, that the garment may he stepped. into by opening the waist in the front, and that the waist line will expand sufficiently to pass over the hips, and that after the garment is on the wearer, should the front become uiiibuttoned accidentally, the waist portion will still firmly fit the shoulders and prevent the garment from slipping oil of the wearer. It will also be noted that by providing the elastic pieces in the waist line and the plaited portion in the waist, that it will readily give to fit various sizes of waists within a reasonable limit. It is also to be noted that the waist can be easily changed to fit various proportions and sizes of busts, and shoulders, by simply ripping out the stitches 12 and making the plaits narrower and restitching the same, or by letting the plaits out altogether. The belt being also adjustable to various sizes of the waist will produce a neat eflect of the garment and cover the seam at the'wais't.
What I claim is A garment comprising bloomers and a waist, secured together at the waist line and provided with'fullness at either side of'the waist line, pieces of elastic being secured to the front portions of the garment at the waist line, and extending around the sides within a fold formed in the garment and secured to the back of the garment at the waistline, the waist portion of the garment having a central opening extending from the neck portion to the waist line, and being provided on either side of the neck portion with plaits extending from the shoulder to the waist line in the front and back of the waist, and an adjustable belt adapted to fit around the waist line, whereby the plaits in the waist are adapted to provide fullness therein, so that the plaits may be let out to adjust the waist to various sizes of bust and shoulders, and whereby the elastic pieces in the waist line are adapted to adjust the waist line to various sizes of waists.
In testimony whereof I afiix my si nature.
