IMPROVEMENT IN BROOM-HANGERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,696, dated February 15, 1876 application filed November 30, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMoN VREELAND, of Salamanca, Oattaraugus county, New York, have invented an improved Broom Hanger, of which the following is a specification: My invention relates to an improvement in that class of broom-hangers in which the handie of the broom is held between two projections on a pivoted plate, the weight of the broom causing said plate to assume an angle and the handle to bind against the projections, thereby retaining it in place 5 and the object of my invention is to produce a simple, cheap, and effective hanger of this character. This object I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view ot my improved broom-hanger; Fig. 2, afront view; and Fig. 3 a vertical section ofthe same.
rIhe hanger consists of a fiat plate, A, having at the top a boss, a, in which is formed an opening for the nail or screw upon which it is hung, and at and near'its lower end two concavo-convex projections, b b, the convex faces of which are serrated or luted, as shown in Figs. l and 2, in order that they may take a rm gripe on the handle.
The plate A has also a central strengthening-rib, d, extending from fthe boss a to the lower end of the plate. Owing to the use of this strengthening-rib, and to the concavoconvex form of the projections b, the hanger may be made of cast metal, and may be very light, without danger of being fractured by the rough usage to which it is subjected; and, on account of the lightness ot the metal, and the ease with which, owing to its form, the device can be cast, its cost is very much reduced and its production in large quantities facilitated.
