Description

UNITED STATES i PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT HENNING, OFv OTTAWA, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J. D. OATON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-FILES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,086, dated April 22, 1873; application liled February 8, 1873.
of paper-iiles having guards to prevent the.
loss of the led messages, as hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In'the drawing, A represents a rectangular plate of brass, bronze, or other suitable material, which is applied by screws 0r otherwise to the walls or other convenient place within reach of the operator. A flattened conical shoulder, a, is cast to plate A, and has screwed into its lower end the tile-hook b, of strong metal wire, which bends upward and terminates in a sharp point so. that the papers may be easily placed'over the same. At the upper end of the shoulder a the guard-lever B is pivoted with its arms g to a quadrantal projection, d, and rests, when closed, on the projecting shoulder o. When thrown open a short vertical elongation, e, of plate A, serves as rest for the same. The lever B, preferably of the same material as plate A, is constructed with a straight upper surface and provided with a full, heavy head, f, with a conical recess, h, at its lower side, into which the sharp end of the hook projects. The heavy head f causes the lever, by its weight, to drop down on the hook as soon as the message-tiles are placed thereon and .the pressure for holding up the lever is relinquished. The guard-lever B close-s thereby etl'ectually the tile, and prevents the loss of messages.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The hinged guard-lever B, combined with the paper-file plate A, having the rests a c arranged as and for the purpose described.
ROBERT HENNING.
