From its top extends the rod c, square or polygonal in cross-seeton for ,a short dista-nee, and then itniay be round 'ts in a corresponding mortise in the body of the handle f, so that the plug will rotate With the handle, leaving the handle free to. rise and fall. On the base ofthe handle are lugs t', which lit into corresponding mortises or depressions in the faced top of the body a when the tap is closed, as shownin Fig, l, pulled down thereto by the springfthereby securelyr 1 spring e, and handle f, bearing lugs i, fitting to corresponding recesses in the body a, all actin g substantially as shown and described.
