Description
L. D U'VALL. I COMBINED TOY GUN AHNDHORNK PatentedNov. 2,1875.
NJETERS, PHOlOiH'HDGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. 0,0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEONIDAS DUVALL, OF GEORGETOWN, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED TOY GUNS AND Hogans.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,427, dated November 2, 1875; application riled September 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONIDAS DUVALL, of Georgetown, in the county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented an Improved Pocket-Shooter and Horn combine-d, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is an improvement in an instrument or toy for throwing projectiles by the use of an elastic strap or band, combining a whistle or born.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and portable toy, as an instrument of amusement for children.
The accompanying drawing will more fully illustrate the nature of my invention.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my toy. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the line A B.
The same letters occurring on the several figures indicate like parts.
A A is the elastic cord or band by which force is produced for throwing projectiles; B, the main tube, as shown. C G is a mOVELblB hollow piston, as shown in Fig. 2, and forming a whistle or horn, in combination with the outside cylinder and band A; D, a projectile or arrow, within the piston O; E, the
fastening, semi-inclosing the tube B, and havin g lips d, by which the elastic band is secured, as shown in all the figures, which fastening can be placed on any portion of the cylinder, though intended to be. placed nearer to one end than the otherfso as to give greater force in throwing a projectile, when the rubber band is placed on the longer end of the cylinder.
The hollow piston is intended to contain the projectile, such as an arrow or buck-shot. This cylinder is retracted by the band or cord A with such force as to throw the projectile a considerable distance, and with great degree of accuracy.
When not used as a shooter this toy may be used as a whistle or born, the operator blowing in the end not covered by the strap, and the sound may be either fine or coarse-- finewhen the hollow piston is in the cylinder, or coarse when the opposite is the case.
The cylinders B may be manufactured and sold as a complete article without the rubber, as the rubber may be easily applied by children themselves, and it may be renewed by them when broken.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combined toy gun and horn, consistin g of the cylinder or tube B, having tastening E, the band A, and the hollow piston O, substantially as described. 7
2. The combined shooter and horn AB, and the hollow cylinder G, substantially as de scribed.
LEONIDAS DUVALL.
