IMPROVEMENT IN BELL-METAL TOY BALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,419, dated November 2, 1875; application filed September 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JONATHAN C. CLARK, of Middle Haddain, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bell-Metal Toy Ball, of which the following is a specification:
The figure is a side view of my improved toy.
The object of this invent ion is to furnish an improved toy forchildren which shall be neat, simple, and pleasing, and at the same time durable, not being liable to get out of order or be broken.
The invention consists in a toy ball made of bell-metal, and provided with a small ball in its interior to produce the sounds; in the combination of the bail with the bell-metal ball; and in the combination of a cord with the ball, whether the bail be used or not, ashereinafter fully described.
A is a hollow ball or sphere, which is made of bell-metal, and in. one side of which is formed a slot to allow the metal to vibrate, and thus give a sound. In the ball A are formed a number of holes to allow the sound which are bent inward, and are inserted in holes in the opposite sides of the ball A, so that the said ball Amay turn upon the said ends as an axle. In the center of the bail B is formed an eye, to receive a cord, C, by which the toy maybe carried or drawn along the floor or ground.
The bail B may also serve as a handle to i enable the ball to be used as a bell.
The cord C may be inserted in a hole in the ball A, and secured in place by having a knot tied upon its inner end.
The former construction is preferred, as the cord C, when attached directly to the ball A, has a tendency to check the vibrations, and thus deaden the sound.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent- 1. A toy ball made of a hollow shell of bellmetal, and provided with a cleft or other opening and a small ball in its interior to produce the sounds, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the bail B with the hollow perforated bell-metal ball A, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. The combination of a cord, 0, with the bell-metal ball A herein described, whether a bail be used or not, substantially as herein shown and described.
