Application filed May 12, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL HORNBERGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Homestead, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to toys, and relates more particularly to that class of toys known in the art as sounding toys.
The present invention has for its object to construct a toy of the above described class, that will be simple in its construction, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
The present invention has for its further object to construct a toy that will be amusing to children and to others.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
Describing the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved toy showing the same arranged in position upon the operator, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the toy when removed.
In these drawings, the reference characters 1 indicate cup-shaped ear caps which are secured together by means of a strap 2 at their upper ends, and a strap 3 is securely attached to the caps as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. These caps have formed therein apertures 4 for the reception of 'the cords 5 and 6, the cord 5 being attached to the cord 6, as shown at 7, said cord 6 being elongated as shown at 8 and terminating in a loop 9, for the reception of a pin 10, said pin is circular in cross section and has formed thereon centrally a contracted portion 11 forming a seat for the loop 9.

The device is applied in position to the head in the following manner. The strap 2 being placed over the head and the strap 8 in the rear of the head, and the cup-shaped ear caps fitting closely over the ears. The cords 5 and 6 forming a yoke and the pin 10 which is preferably constructed of wood is placed in the hands and turned. The cups 1 are preferably constructed of tin or other suitable metallic material. The turning of the pin 10 will vibrate the cords when held in a taut position thereby creating a sounding in the caps which will convey to the drums of the ears a sound similar to that of cannonading.
It will seem that the device may be readily applied in position and removed when desired, and it also may be compactly folded in a comparatively small space, making it exceedingly convenient to carry.
Having fully described my invention in detail, what I claim as new and desire secured by Letters Patent is 1. A toy comprising cup-shaped ear caps, means to secure said caps to the operator, strings or cords attached to said caps, and a sounder communicating with said cords.
2. A toy comprising cup-shaped ear caps, straps connected to said caps, cords secured to said caps, and a sounder communicating with said cords.
3. A toy comprising cup-shaped ear caps, means to secure said caps to the operator, cords attached to said ear caps, a loop formed at the end of one of said cords, and a sounder rotatably secured to said loop.
4:. A toy comprising cup-shaped ear caps, straps to secure said caps to the operator, cords attached to said ear caps, a loop formed at the end of one of said cords, and a wooden pin rotatably secured to said loop.
