Description

1. c. Tono.
Toy-Guns.
Patented May 19, |874.
INVENTUB l ATT WITNESSES.
UNITED STATES PATENT GFErcE JOHN C. TODD, OF TORONTO, OANADA.
IMPROVEMENT lN TOY GUNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,063, dated May 19, 1874; application filed March 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN C. TODD, of Toronto, Province o f Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and Improved Toy Gun, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional front elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my improved toy gun.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspond in g parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish to children a neat and amusing toy gun or catapult, by which a dart may bethrown to a considerable distance, it being easily and conveniently handled. My invention consists of a disk-shaped piece of suitable material, provided with agroove along the circumference, in which, by suitable side staples or other fastcnings, the elastic band is placed. A dialnetrical perforation of the disk serves as a guidechamber for the dart, the disk being provided at one cud thereof with a segmental recess for easily taking hold of the end of the dart and the elastic band, and sending' out the dart.
In the drawing, A represents the disk-shaped body of mytoy gun, of suitable size, so that it may be conveniently carried in the pocket. A concave groove, a, extends around the circumference of disk A, having an elastic band, B, of rubberor other suitable material, attached by side staples, rivets, or other fastenings b. Band B extends from staple to staple, along three-fourths of the circumference, more or less, a diametrical perforation, d, being arranged through the body of the disk in the di' rection of the symmetrical axis of the elastic band, opening midway between the staples b. The opposite end of perforation d opens to a segmental recess, e, of the disk, across which the elastic band is stretched, forming the chord thereof. The perforation of the disk serves as a guide'channel for the dart or bolt O, which is inserted therein and taken hold of by the tngers, with the band at the segmental recess, which gives suflicient space for the ready handling of the dart end and band. The disk is held in the other hand, and the dart thrown by releasing the end of the elastic band.
It forms avery convenient Atoy gun, as its form allows the easy holding ofthe parts and carrying' about in the pocket.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The toy gun or catapult consisting` of a diskshaped body, with grooved circumference, di`
ametrical guide perforations, and segmental recess, having an. elastic band attached sidewise, for throwing the dart placed in the guide perforations, substantially as specified.
