UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
cHAELEs I. sNYDEE, E PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY TARG ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 270,141, dated January 2, 1883.
Application tiled March 15, 1882. (No model.)
To all twhom it may concern l Beit known that I, CHARLES I. SNYDER, of the city of Philadelphia., State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Toy, to he known as the Guiteau Reversible Target, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in Which- A is a disk, of wood or other suitable material, provided With a handle, a, and an oritce, a. Secured to the disk A, upon the linterior of said orifice a', is a piece of elastic, B, to the l other end ot' which is attached a ball, C.
By holding the target, by means of handle a, in one hand and the ball C between the lingers of the other, drawing the ball back from the target, thus extending the elastic B, and then releasing 'said ball, the latter will be projected in the direction of the target, the object being to cause the ball to pass through the orifice c', affording a cheap and simple form ot' amuse- Inent, especially for children.
By securing the elastic B upon the interior of the orifice a th-e target is madereversible, for after having caused the ball B to pass through said oritce it is only necessary to reverse disk A and take hold ot' the ball B, in the manner hereinbet'ore set forth.
I do not limit myself to the material of which thepparts may be constructed, nor to the peculiar shape ofthe same,as shown.
'central orice,
I am aware that toy targets have been constructed having an elastic band secured to the front thereof for the purpose of driving a projectile attached to its outer end through a hole or holes therein. such construction, broadly, my invention consisting in so placing an elastic band provided withv a projectile at its outer end with reference to the hole'in the target that when said projectile has been driven through from one side it can be caught and the operation re peated from the other side with equal facility, the target being reversed after each shot.
What l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The reversible toy target formed with the and provided with handle a,in combination with the projectile (l and elastic cord B, secured at its inner end upon the interior ot the said orifice, at the base thereof, and on a line with the handle, whereby the projectile may be driven through the orilice from either side thereotlnnder like ot` difficulty, substantially as shown and described. CHARLES I. sNYDEE. Witnesses: I
ALBERT E. ZAcHEaLE, FEEDRICK W. BAUER.
' I therefore do not claim conditions
