UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOHN H. WALES, OF MILFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY ARROW-SHOOTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,369, dated March 2, 1875 applicaticn filcd December 25,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. WALES, of Milford, Worcester county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Shooting Tube and Arrow, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shooting toy, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, the tube being shown in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improi'ed shooting toy for children, which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, and so constructed as to be used in a house without danger of damaging the Walls or furniture.
My invention consists of the toy formed of a tube, provided with an open ring upon one side of the arrow and the rubber band, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a short tube made of brass or other suitable material. To one side of the tube A, near its rear end, is brazed or otherwise secured a ring, B, which has a narrow opening formed in its forward side, so that a rubber band, C, may be readily slipped into it. D is an arrow, which is made of wood,
cane, or other suitable material. The arrow D is made of a convenient length, and of such a size as to fit loosely into the tube A and readily pass through it. When intended for indoor use a rubber head, E, is attached to the forward end of the arrow D, as shown in Fig. 1.
In using the toy the tube A is held in one hand, the arrow D is passed through the tube A from its forward end, and the rubber band 0 is passed over the rear end of the arrow. The rear end of the arrow is then grasped with the thumb and finger of the other hand and drawn back to put the rubber band 0 under any desired tension. The arrow 'D is then released and the elasticity of the rubber band 0 will throw it from the tube with considerable force.
Having thus described in y in vention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The toy for shooting arrows formed of the tube A, provided with an open ring, 13, upon one side and the rubber band 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
Witnesses: JOHN H. WALES.
