IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS FOR SEWING-MACHINES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,864, dated September 21, 1875; application filed March 26,1875.

To allfwhom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FREDERICK MACKLIN WILLSON, president of the Gardner Sewing- Machine Company, and WILLIAM VASSIE, mechanical superindendent of the said company, both of the city of Hamilton, in the county of Wentworth, inv the Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have jointly invented a new and useful Lamp-Hold-- ing Attachment for Sewing-Machines; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same.

Referring to the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a side elevation. Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are sectional views of the same.

A is a hollow socket, to be inserted iuto the table of a sewing-machine, having a rim on the upper end, which is firmly fastened to the table by two screws. B is a hollow pillar, sliding inside the socket A, and held in its place by set-screws a, the object being to raise or lower the lamp to any height required. D is a bracket, having on the one end a stem, C, entering into the hollow pillar B, having a joint in the middle, J J, and a ring, E, and

joint K K (for holding the lamp) on the other end, the` object being to enable the operator to turn the lamp to any position-required. E is a ring, attached to the bracket at ljoint K K, having on the outside a lug, F. G is an arm'entering the lug F, having a joint, H, the object being to hold the reflector, and enable the operator to place it at any angle required to throwthe light directly upon the work.

We make no claim to the bracket, nor to the reflector.

What we claim as our invention is- The ring E, swiveled to the bracket D, and forming a support for the lamp, and con'- structed with the lug F, in combination with the reector and its frame, having the arm Gr fitted in the lugon the said ring, and the pillar B and socket A, the whole being lconstructed and relatively arranged substantially as shown and described.
