UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BRUNO A. NEISSER, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAM P-BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,291, dated June 25, 1878; application filed May 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRUNO A. NEISSER, of Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Lamp-Bracket for Sewing-Machine Tables, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap and simple device, attachable to a sewing-machine table, for supporting and adjusting the position of a lamp to light the operative at work without preventing the free passing on table of the garment operated upon.
The invention consists in a lamp-bracket constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of my improved lamp-bracket. Fig. 2 is a top view of the lampreceiver.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a hollow standard, the foot of which is intended to be fastened 011 the table three or four inches from the right end of the same, and directly back of the arm of the sewing-machine. B is a vertical round rod, fitted to slide in the standard A, and held in position by a setscrew, it, fitted through the side of the said standard at right angles to the rod B. G is a horizontal arm, projecting from a perforated hub, c, by which it is pivoted on the upper end of the rod B, and supported by a collar, I), upon the latter.
G is a washer, fastened by the screw h to the center of the upper end of the rod B, and which may be tightened enough upon the end of the hub c to produce a proper amount of friction to keep the horizontal arm Gin position. The arm 0 is hollow, or provided with an axial socket, suitable to receive a sliding rod, D, of angular cross-section, to prevent turnin g,which is secured in place by the set-screw 61 through the body of the arm 0.
The outer end of the sliding rod D is curved downward, as seen in the drawings, and secured to the lug e of the cup or lamp-receiver E, in such a manner as to keep the latter horizontal, to support the lamp H in a proper position.
The lamp H is held steady in the receiver E by a ring, F, which is hinged at f to the rim of the cup E, and fitted to surround the lampbowl above its rim and press it down when the ring F is closed upon the cup E, to which latter the ring F is then fastened down by the clasp g on the side opposite to the hinge).
By the vertical sliding rod B the lamp may be elevated as desired, by the horizontal arm 0, pivoted on the vertical rod B, it may be swung, and by the sliding arm D extended horizontally into any position required.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A lamp-bracket for a sewing-machine table, constructed of the combination of the hollow standard A, having set-screw a, the vertical sliding rod B, having collar b, washer G, and screw h, the horizontal swinging arm 0, having set-screw d, the horizontal sliding rod D, and the lamp-receiver E, provided with the hinged and clasped fastening-ring F, substantially as shown and described.
BRUNO A. NEISSER.
