JOHN J. NOLAN, OF EAST SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,082, dated February 5, 1878; application filed December 22, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN J. NOLAN, of East Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Lamp-Brackets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a perspective view of my lamp-bracket.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an adjustable and reversible lamp-bracket, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents a clamp, provided with a setscrew, B, for fastening the same to any place or any article desired. This clamp is, at its end, provided with two parallel cars, a a, between which the bracket 0 is pivoted by means of a pin, 12.
On the top of the clamp are two similar ears or lugs, a a, between which the bracket may be pivoted when it is necessary to fasten the clamp in avertical position. When the clamp is fastened in a horizontal position the bracket is pivoted between the ears or lugs a a.
The bracket C may be made of any suitable design, and-it is inclined, as shown, so as to bring the lamp-holding device in a plane below the clamp, or, if the bracket be reversed, above said plane.
Through the opening at the outer end of the bracket 0 is passed a lamp-supporting device, D, consisting of a vertical rod, D, to which the rim G is secured, said rod with the rim being adjusted up and down, as desired, and held in any position by means of a set-screw, d. The rim G is made in circular form, but flaring, to receive a lamp. In the front of the rim is an opening, h, so that an ordinary handlamp can be placed in the rim, the handle of the lamp passing out through said opening h.
By means of the adjustability of the rod D and the reversibility of the bracket, it will be seen that the lamp can be set at almost any height desired, and it can be swung around to either side.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1, In combination with a lamp-bracket a clamp, provided with devices at right angles to each other for connecting the bracket to the clamp, whether said clamp is fastened in a vertical or a horizontal position, as herein set forth.
2. In a lampbracket, the combination, with a clamp and a lamp-supporting device, of the reversible inclined bracket 0, whereby a lamp can be held in a plane below the clamp or above said plane, substantially as set forth.
3. A lamp-bracket consisting of a clamp provided with ears or lugs a a, arranged at right angles to each other, a bracket, 0, and the lamp-support D, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN J. NOLAN.
Witnesses SAMUEL MOFFITT,
PETER SEWEY.
