Description

To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
LIVERUS HULL, OF. OHARLESTOWN, ASSIGNOR TO TUCKER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BRACKETS.
S ecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,106, dated A igl st 26, 873; pp i fli n fi d June 2, 1873.
Be it known that I, LIVERUS HULL, of Oharlestown, of the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Brackets and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in. the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which-- A Figure 1 is a top view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of one of my improved brackets.
' The common bracket'has buta single pivot and bearing for supporting the arm, and in consequence of such the bracket is very liable to break at the pivot, or to accidentally get out of place when an attempt is made to raise a lamp from it.
In the drawings, A denotes the lamp-supporting ring, and B the arm to which it is attached.
In carrying out my invention I provide the said arm with an extra journal, a, supported by a brace, 11, extended from the arm and in range with the shade head or holder 0, as shown 5' or, in other words, I fix in the said brace and the arm a round rod, 01, to go through and be fixed in and project above and below the arm and brace, in manner as shown, and
to enter two ears, 0 f, extended from a supportplate or supporter, O. The rod is to be arranged so as to extend down from the arm a distance a little less than that between the two ears, the holes in the ears being large enough to admit of the rod being inserted in or removed from them, so as to couple the bracket with the plate or uncouple the two, as occasion may require.
The bracket and its supporter constructed as described is far preferable to the sin glejournaled bracket.
I claim- As 'a new or improved manufacture, a lampbracket having the pivotal rod 01, the brace b, and the arm B, arranged together and with the ring or lamp-holder A and the two-cared supporter O, substantially as specified.
Y LIVERUS HULL.
