ROBERT IVICCRAY LE GRAND, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO W. A. lSOHNOEBLEN, 0F KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
LAMP-CHIIVINEY HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 21, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT MCCRAY LE GRAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My inventio-n relates to improvements in lamp chimney holders.
The object of my invention is to provide means by which a lamp chimney may be securely held upon the lamp burner.
A further object of my invention is to provide a structure which is neat in appearance, which may be economically manufactured, which is not liable to get out of order, and which will be efficient in operation.
Other novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred form of my invention-Figure l is an elevation, showing the chimney holder applied to a lamp. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder detached from the lamp. Fig. 3 is a top view of what is shown in Fig. l. Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view, taken on the dotted line rf-b of Fig. 3.
Similar characters of reference denote similar parts.
The holder' comprises a transverse member, comprising preferably a horizontal plate l, adapted to be mounted edge up upon and extending across the top of a lamp chimney 2, which may be of any well known type. The chimney illustrated is of the type having a bell shaped top portion 3 and a cylindrical lower end 4, the upper end of which merges into a bellied portion 5. The ends of the plate l are preferably formed into hollow vertical cylinders 6, each of which is provided with a lateral hole 7.
8 denote two upwardly and downwardly extending members, which are preferably round, resilient wires, the upper ends of which are fitted in the cylinders 6 respectively, the extreme upper ends of said wires being laterally bent and extending through the holes 7 so as to prevent the wires turning in the cylinders 6. The lower ends of the wires 8 are preferably provided each with an inwardly and upwardly extending portion 9, which is adapted to engage the outer edge and under side of anordinary lamp burner l0, upon which the chimney 2 is mounted in the ordinary manner. Each wire 8, just below the plate 1, is preferably provided with an inwardly projecting portion 1l, which is adapted to engage the outer edge and under side of the bell shaped top 3 of the chimney. Each wire 8 is also preferably provided with a curved' inwardly extending portion l2, which is adapted to rest against the cylindrical port-ion 4 of the lamp chimney where said portion merges into the bellied portion 5 of said chimney. Each wire 8 is also preferably provided with a curved inwardly extending portion 12, which is adapted to rest against the cylindrical portion 4 of the lamp chimney where said portion merges into the bellied portion 5 of said chimney, and the projections 11 serve to hold the chimney from being tipped laterally on the burner.
In the form of chimney illustrated, which is of the pearl top type, the upper end ofthe chimney is provided with rounded corrugations, between which the plate l fits. The plate 1 being fitted on the top of the chimney the members 8 are then sprung apart so as to be disposed at opposite sides of the chimney and their lower ends are then sprung under the usual peripheral flange, provided on the burner. With the holder so mounted there is no danger of the chimney falling or being knocked from the burner.
Various modifications of my invention, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from its spirit.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is tl. A lamp chimney holder, comprising a plate adapted to be set horizont-ally edge up on the top of a lamp chimney and having its ends formed into vertical hollow cylinders, each cylinder having in one side a transverse hole, and two resilient wires having one set of ends fitted respectively in said cylinders, said set of ends being laterally bent and respectively extending through the transverse holes in said cylinders, the other set of ends of said wires extending inwardly and adapted to engage a lamp burner.
2. A lamp chimney holder, comprising a against the cylindrical lower end oi a lamp chimney at points where said cylindrical portion merges into the bellied portion of the lamp chimney.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT MCCRAY LE GRAND.
