Description

(No Model.)
J. H. WHITE. LAMP BURNER. N0. 603,417.
Patented May 3, 1898;
W Fla! UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES WHITE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AS SIGNOR TO THE MANHAT- TAN BRASS OOMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LAMP-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 603,417, dated May 3, 1898. Application filed S t b 13, 1897- Sarial No. 651,409. (No'modeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
Lamp-burners have heretofore been provided with combination spring-armsthat is, arms adapted to receive the lamp-chimney and at the same time support the globe. In these instances the springs themselves were bent or doubled to form the globe-holders;
In my present invention the globe-holding arms are separate pieces provided with integral clips which extend around and engage the spring chimney-holders at a point slightly above the chimney-support.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan, of a lamp-burner, showing my improvement. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the globe-holding arms, and Fig. 5 illustrates a form of my invention.
The lamp-burner A and the chimney-support and holding-arms thereto are of usual construction. 4 The holding-arms may be the Well-known spring-arms B (shown in Figs. 1 and 2) or the spring-arms and open-work base B. (Shown in Fig. 5.) The spring-arms B extend beneath the rim of the'lamp-burner and.
are fastened securely on the under side in the usual manner by the arms at 2,that are formed with the Wick-raising portion of the burner and are clamped to the chimney-supporting rim or air-distributer.
The globe -holding arms 0 are separate pieces, and their inner ends are made with the integral clips 3 4. These, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, are bent aroundthe spring chimney-holding arms B, and their free edges come almost or quite in contact with each other as the clips embrace the chimney-holding arms B. These clips surround the chimney-holding arms at a point slightly above the chimney-supporting rim 5, and they grip the arms firmly. Y
The clip-pieces are not liable to interfere with the operation of the springs in holding the chimney upon thelamp-burner, and the place at which the clips are fastened is one where the weight of the globe is least liable to cause an outward deflection of the chimney-holder.
In the form shown in Fig. 5 the globe-holding arms 0 are identical with those shown in the other figures, and the clip-pieces pass through mortises in the open-work of the spring chimney-holder, and they are folded and tightly clenched, so as to be rigid and support the globe with reliability.
I claim as my invention The combination in a lan1p-burner With the chimney-holding arms secured to the burner, of separate globe-holding arms formed with integral clips 3, and 4, that are bent around and embrace the spring chimney-holding arms at a point above the chimney-support, substantially as set forth. I
. Signed by me this 4th day of September,
JAMES H. WHITE.
